If by huge amount of opposition you mean small amount compared to the political opposition then I agree. There is also opposition to the fact the lands are condemned when typically it's a mineral rights sale. There is also opposition because it's a Canadian company using imported steel.

We only get.. what? about 15% of our oil from the middle east? That's not insignificant. It's enough to affect our foreign policies concerning the region. You know this to be true.
We are beholden to the shady practices of OPEC.

We get less than 40% from our own lands, we could do 100% if we wanted and be completely energy independent. Or we could do less and stay with NAFTA partners ONLY and be much better off.

If you think that what we get from the middle east is "so little it's a joke", I'd have to disagree. If you are correct in that it's so little, let's stop, nobody would notice.

When people say we need to become energy independent and the argument against is "but the keystone pipeline is..." the logical answer would be to look for other avenues to extract our own. It's not the keystone or nothing is it?
wow, not only do you speak forever with nothing to say, you have your own little set of non-facts to work from.

"if by huge you mean small then i agree" is something only a real douche would say.

you really should do yourself a favor and take a look at the opposition being mounted by conservative nebraska ranchers.

beholden to OPEC? jesus christ. there are no words for some of the stupid shit you will say.

Keystone or nothing is the thinking of simpletons.

OPEC has made us their bitch for decades, sorry you aren't aware. I'll give you credit for being ignorant instead of stupid, but you are working hard to disprove this.

Another thing Buck. We were talking about oil under our own soil and your argument is that people are against a company that wants to bring Canada's tar sands oil to Texas refineries.

Then you call ME stupid for it. Words can't describe how petulant and close-minded you can be. The logic is not strong with you.

if you knew the first damn thing about economics, you'd know that oil will never run out.

but it is glaringly apparent that you do not know the first thing about economics. see above.
I clearly stated my opinion, which is that we will never run out of oil...

Clarlie ur readin constipation has felt you?

all i ever did was point out how you conservatives are fucking nebraska in the ass to build a pipeline that will create almost zero jobs.

you guys are good little puppets though. you'll even railroad your own fellow conservatives to do your master's bidding.

this proves the correlation between racists and the tendency to forward chain emails.

(in case anyone was unaware, uncleben will tell you to "cut that n***er shit out" if you post rap music videos and has som eeven choicer words about the president)
What in the hell does a parody on growing old have to do with "racism"? Damn, is that liberals only argument, not that there was any correlation?

Fuckin' race baiting stupid people saying fuckin' stupid shit is all that is BuckNuts.

A couple of my opinions:

1. I'm sure we have a finite amount of oil available. Let's go with 200 years worth. Now look back 200 years ago and how much technology and energy usage has changed. We could be talking about a hay shortage 200 years ago since that's what our transportation ran on. To think that we'll still be even needing oil 200 years from now is in my opinion very limited thinking.

2. As far a pipelines......I'm guessing there's probably 10 miles of piping within a mile around my suburban home....and millions of miles of pipelines crisscrossing our nation....and what percentage of all these pipes leak? I'm guessing it's an almost un-measurable number. We have the technology to build pipe-lines that are safe, and if there's a leak....can be detected quickly.

I am not against alternative energy.....I am against flogging energy sources for decades that cannot be as reliable as what we have now. It would take a solar field the size of New Jersey to light New York City. Then there's the displacement of anything living in that area. Solar energy is not the answer. Then after decades of trying to make wind-turbines being an efficient alternative....it's not.

I do like geo-thermal and technology such as the "Bloom Box" has great promise. Let the private sector pick the winners and losers and keep government out of this process.

How is it beneficial to advocate building a pipeline so the Canadians have a easier and cheaper method of exporting oil to the rest of the world that is now sold to us at below market rates?
And how is it beneficial that we build this pipeline over one of the worlds largest fresh water aquifers?

Have you paid attention to what has happened with the drinking water in West Virginia? Does the thought of a polluted vast underground freshwater source appeal to you?

TOWN OF JACKSON, Wis. —One year has passed since residents in Washington County found their wells contaminated by a leaking petroleum pipeline.

A leak under the Town of Jackson discovered on July 17 spilled an estimated 55,000 gallons of gasoline product into the soil, contaminating many wells with benzene.

Homeowners in the area of the West Shore Pipe Line continue to have bottled water delivered to their homes as the water from their wells is now undrinkable.

"A lot of things that you take for granted, as far as the use of water, is different," said Jim Bournelis. His well is one that was compromised in the spill.

"You can clean with the regular water, but all the cooking you have to use the water that they bring us."

Bournelis said that even his dog has to drink and be bathed with water that comes from somewhere other than his own well. And a year's worth of inconvenience and frustration is spilling over to the housing market.

There are homes for sale on Bournelis' street, but no one seems willing to buy.

"People break into it," he said of a nearby house, vacated by its owners. "People that aren't supposed to be around here are here."

Representatives from West Shore Pipe Line said they are working to find a long-term solution to provide safe drinking water to the affected residents.

A February report by WISN 12 News said 150 households have filed suit against West Shore over the spill.

The Ogallala Aquifer is a vast, shallow water table aquifer located beneath the Great Plains in the United States. One of the world's largest aquifers, it underlies an area of approximately 174,000 mi² (450,000 km²) in portions of eight states: (South Dakota, Nebraska, Wyoming, Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Texas). It was named in 1898 by N.H. Darton from its type locality near the town of Ogallala, Nebraska. The aquifer is part of the High Plains Aquifer System, and rests on the Ogallala Formation, which is the principal geologic unit underlying 80% of the High Plains.[SUP][1][/SUP]
About 27 percent of the irrigated land in the United States overlies the aquifer, which yields about 30 percent of the ground water used for irrigation in the United States. Since 1950, agricultural irrigation has reduced the saturated volume of the aquifer by an estimated 9%. Depletion is accelerating, with 3% lost between 2001 and 2008 alone. Certain aquifer zones are now empty; these areas will take over 100,000 years to replenish naturally through rainfall.
The aquifer system supplies drinking water to 82 percent of the 2.3 million people (1990 census) who live within the boundaries of the High Plains study area

AND we want to route a Oil pipeline over this? For the benefit of a Canadian Oil company and the Cock Brothers?
