Closet grow room design help?!

Hey guys.
Total newbie here. Used to growing aquatic plants. So I have a closet around 4'x5'x12'. The only exhaust is a grill on the top of the wall around 2.5'x2.5'. How do I make the inlet and outlet odorless? I was thinking of making an activated carbon screen of an inch thick and closing the whole exhaust area with it. Then using 1/3 of that exhaust as outtake and remaining as inlet. Would that work? I also have pressurized CO2 from my planted tank's setup. If I ever want to do CO2, Would I need to make changes to my exhaust system?

Quick question.. are you planning to flower your plants in the same closet?

For basic closet vegetative grow area.. I made a video on YouTube. Just search "Solar Flowered Episode 3 - The Vegetative Closet "

Hope this helps and good luck!

Inlet don't worry about odor. Outlet use a carbon filter at the end of the duct run. Your homemade filter will not work as well as a can one. Where are you getting the activated charcoal from? How thick do you intend to make it and what is the permeability? The thicker it is the larger the fan it will take to force the air through it.

CO2 is heavier than room air. It will sink to the lowest level. It needs to "rain" down from above on your plant canopy for max effect. You should have the regulator set so low that it won't matter if it escapes the grow closet.

Believe me, when I made me first vegg room together.. I waaay overthought it. Then realized what I could do without. The only reason why a setup like that works is because the HVAC unit circulates warm and fresh air.

I would think it's a bit overkill. I would just hook up 2 foot T5's like you saw in the video. I bet you could fit about 7 or 8 in a grow space about that size.. but I would recommend on not daisy chaining any more than 4 T5's lights per plug. I think that would be the best option if heat and uneven canopies are issues. If you can evacuate air out of a 3x4x6 area.. you can also go with a 4 bulb T5 setup. I haven't used led technology because T5's having worked very well for me in vegetation. The only thing is that light starts to really die out past 8 inches into an un-thinned canopy. Also, a 2 foot T5 bulb uses about 20 watts each and a four foot 4-bulbs T5 light uses about 200 watts. Hope this helps! :)

Ya, as soon as they fry ill probably be putting alot more t8s in there, I know they aint as efficient as t5s but they are way cheaper lol
Yep, I hear ya on that. I have never used led's before in real life.. but I heard they are a bitch. You can have plants almost touching the T8 bulb and the foliage will be little to no burn. However, you put the same plant right directly under and led unit.. your most likely gonna light bleach the leaves. Or so I am told.. I would use t8's for sure then save for a few 2ft T5 strips on the side. I had leaves touching the bulbs on my 2ft T5 lights with minimal damage to the foliage. I bet the same can be done with the T8's for sure. Looks like your on the right track! Good luck!!! :D

Ok. I am using diy leds so far now (2 x 129W panels). They seemed to grow my aquatic plants like crazy so I am hoping they will be good for weed grow.
The inlet/outlet problem is still the same. I have not figured out how to go about that. Will the plants smell during veg? Is 14/10 even veg or will they flower?
I cant use ducts or anything because of the space problem in the wall grill. I am thinking of getting an ionizer/ozone generator as an extra precautionary measure for smell. But it'll be outside the grill so, will it destroy my activated carbon wall scrubber?

In regards to led.. I would be careful about light bleaching.. I don't have much experience with led technology.. so I would be careful at keeping the lights high enough. I would recommend a switching minimum of 18 on and 6 off light cycle for the led's. Anything less and you will vegg out 1 leafers and it will be a recipe for seeded crops. From the sounds of it.. I highly doubt smell will be a problem. I think your plants need to be much larger for smell to be an issue. I wouldn't worry about an ozone generator.. they are a bit overkill. I would just stay with carbon scrubbing and watch for leaf burn from led's being too close.. Good luck man!

i was worried about smell at first in veg. But it's really the flower. The veg smell I found to be more contained to the space where the flower was wAy more linger. I agree with solar. If anything just a carbon can and if you are still unsettled they make a jar that smells like dryer that you can put by the out. No worries. Good luck man
