Would you get a grow box like this for yourself?

Hi there,

My friends and I are working on a startup project: a grow box that you can command remotely with an app. Originally, we created the product for all type of plants. We are now wondering if we should make it specialized for the weed growers community. As you guys are expert in growing weeds, we’d love to hear your precious opinions on our work so that we can improve it.

So here is the thing:

Agrome is a grow box which help to grow exotic, non-native plants and to increase their yield by remotely creating a controllable environment with a smartphone, or tablet, computer, or whatever connected to internet :D). It is equipped with:

  • LEDs of various (very precise) light frequencies that plants need most: Blue (470nm), Royal Blue (447.5 nm), Red (627nm), Deep Red (655nm) and others. You can manage the proportion of each type of light to optimize the yield of each state of growth: from seedling to flowering.

  • a heater : just in case it might get cold in your place :p

  • a hydroponic system with direct irrigation towards the roots.

  • various compartments for nutrients to inject the right nutrient at the right state of growing.

  • ventilation
  • various types of sensors which measure air and water’s temperature, humidity, plants’ size and height, water’s pH.

  • cameras which transfers real time images, and analyses photosynthesis of plant at the same time.

  • a mini-computer (raspberry pi), to which sensors and cameras are linked, commands the activities of the box.
Because the growbox is well insulated, and easily controlled; you can create a special environment with specific temperature, lights and nutrients that fit your plant. And this can be done remotely through an online application. The computer will keep track of all the possible environmental changes and adjust the growbox to maintain the environment that you created. At the end of the day, you can see what happened to your plant and how it is performing.

The box’s growing surface measures L40xW40cm with 25cm, 40cm, and 1m+ in height, perfectly modular. Previews in attached files

What do you feel about it? Does it fit the weed growing purpose?

What would you suggest to improve?

How much would you pay for it if you're interested in buying one?

Thanks and looking forward to hearing from you guys! :weed:

Cool and all but the don't fall is you gave out your blue prints you just gave up your market only hope for sale is adding a labor cost sell the labor not the parts that's the problem with the $2000 metal cabniet you can make for $500

Thanks for your advice! We expect to bring down the cost and make it accessible. And the app would make it easier to monitor the plants.
What would be the size of a $500 box that you can make by yourself? This info would help us a lot!

I have doing a diy myself of something very similar using a micro nanny cam and temp/humidity sensors so I have peace of mind when I am away from my garden to better answer you question it depends on how your designing it each have there pros and cons I can buy a good size metal cabinet yo start with for around $250 or can build one with wood using lightweight osb for around $50 you can make them both blend nicely the wooden one you can make a decorative center piece for of your dining room all while remain completely stealth while as the metal cabinet you can stick almost anywhere and never raise a eye brow metal conducts heat more then wood ect ect...But to answers your question if we are talking just a cab and not a turn key system 3-4Lx5-6Hx2W would be a fair price maybe higher if you make it more decorative but if I could make one more suggestions to really pull a better market in order to keep prices lower a led worth using will run you around $1000 if you don't count the discount for buying in bulk and you will not pull the hps fans towards it it would also be in possible to run a 600w-1000w and remain stealth my suggestion look into plasma lighting not the 7k one but there are alot of plasma under or right around 1k and might just might be the best grow lighting even if you decide not to atleast making it a reasonably priced option will surely draw attention

so let's re cap the original question materials+features included+equipment (charging normal equipment cost don't give your discount out unless you want to make prices even lower) roll in a modest labor fee = price per cab

Cool idea, I don't know how much of a market there would be for this though. I'm not really sure how affective an app would be also besides being able to possibly change the temp or just look at your plants. Really in my opinion growing is a hands on hobby. Most people's rooms i know be it on a larger scale are pretty much automated as far as the environment is concerned but there is some things you have to be there for such as watering plants, checking tds/ph. Now if you design the setup where it can do a resevoir change and remotely adjust tds and ph by adding nutrients or water now that my friend would be pretty sweet.

I could see someone spending a coupe coins on this but where I'm from there's no need for stealth grows, lol. Everyone does it big or goes home.

Sounds all inspector gadget. I love the idea. As a matter of fact I'll even volunteer to run a prototype and help you work out the kinks. Just let me know.

Thanks a lot 420monster! We'll definitely take your suggestions into consideration. :D
We haven't thought about plasma light because we actually find various advantages from the LED. LED have precise light spectrums so we can use the right types of light to accelerate seedling, growth and flowering, and improve yield. On some plants, rigth ligthing can make them grow 2-3 times faster. And LED actually consumes 2x less energy and lasts much longer than plasma. I guess we earn more using LED in the long run. But maybe you're right, we must test it :)

Yeah, the app would do much more than just change the temp or look at the plant. We could actually remotely adjust tds and ph, add CO2 if you want to boost growth, get various info like how tall it grow each day, how your plant reacts to light, nutrients, temp and humidity changes, and keep all the history of the plant so that you can see what you do is right or not, then improve your way of growing. The reservoir should keep the plant good for a couple of weeks till the next refill. The app also sends notification when the reservoir starts to run low. We will see how we can change the reservoir remotely if it's really critical for you to have it done that way :)
We actually want to push it further than changing the temp and look at it.

Anytime I'm not saying led's are a bad thing tho I'm just saying people are not 100% sold on them yet that is why the more options the better but glad to help

as far as remote changing of the res have a option to come with a external fill and drain tank 1 pump empties the old water and the other fills up the tank again and make them big anuff for 2 or 3 changes then it would be highly marketable for hydro growers who travel alot or people going on vacation the biggest selling point for you is bringing the stuff the other guys don't have

That's a great idea! This feature would bring benefits to those who go on vacations.

What do you think about the CO2 supply in the box? Have you tried it?

Also might want to check out a way to keep the resevoir cool and additional stored water would need to be kept cool as well. Warm water = death.
