Closet grow in apt complex, ?'s about smell

wassup y'all,

I'm thinking about getting a grow tent setup in the closet in my future apt. My biggest fear is that the electricity will go out and the scent will get out and alert my neighbors. Does anyone have any experience growing in an apt complex? Are there any fail safes? It would only be one plant and nothing too big. This is purely head stash.

I grew 4 plants in a bedroom of an apartment many years ago. No problem at all and was before people started using filtration of exhaust.

As long as the plants are not located near the front door u should be fine.

Your lucky enough to be of the internet age and even choose strains with low odor. (i wasnt...lol)

How many neighbors in your complex?

Any youngins you can blame the smell on?

Neighbor: "smells like there's a skunk in the building!"

You: it's those goddamn college kids in H-8. I'm always smelling their reefer through the vents.

Do you own any Pantera or Marley shirts?

How long is your hair?

How do you dress?

Your look is everything when it comes to growing cannabis. At least when it comes to security.

If you look like a stoner and your neighbor sees you at Home Depot with a bag of fertilizer, you're growing weed. They see you and you look well put together and clean, you're helping your mom plant flowers.

They might smell weed on you, from your residence, but if they don't think of you like that...they won't make the connection. They'll think the smell is coming from somewhere else. Or they'll do what most people do. Not pay attention, and not notice shit, and just go about their day.

Or murder you.

That was one of my wife's friends from high school.

Just saying...the whole I'm only growing one plant it's not a big deal thing. It is kind of a big deal. So if you're gonna do it, I would wait until you can do it right. A house, you can keep secure. Out in the country or tucked in a neighborhood with a private garage entrance or nonvisable way to transfer supplies from your car to your grow area. And a carbon filter.

Not to be a ball buster brother I've just seen a lot of unfortunate circumstances for people who thought things weren't a big deal.

No dude it's all good. It sucks but it's something I'll have to wait to do. Thank you to everyone who gave their blunt honest opinion. I have a stealth pc, that'll use if i decide to do it.

Do y'all ever have dreams that get you so excited and you spend hours and hours looking in to it and learning for it all to drop?

Just feeling a little defeated. My well being and freedom are more important than growing, but the learning and dreaming were pretty fun. Some day it'll be legalized and on that day I'll have a grow op going

If you live in a state that it's legal, be glad
I know it can be rough to uproot to a new place but you should come check out Michigan man! Rental houses here in Michigan are a lot cheaper than places like California, Colorado, and Washington. Getting a medical card or caregivers license are extremely easy. And it's an agriculture state so there's lots of cheap gardening resources. Lots of jobs for waiters, servers, bartenders in a lot of places. Case you need some cash to cover your power bill before your first harvest!

I grew in a apartment in a non legal state. I had 5 plants in a bedroom closet. Everything went cool during veg but 4 weeks in flower shit hit the fan. I had a carbon filter and a ozone generator. I was on the 3rd floor and people started calling the management office about the smell. Luckily I ran into the maintenance man outside and he told me about the people complaining and saying the manager is going to call the police. He was cool with me and said if anything is going on in my apt I should shut down with a wink. Everything was gone in 10 mins, didn't have to tell me twice. So if your not in a legal state I would say it ain't worth it man. Too many things can go very wrong very quick.

I grew in a closet in an old apt complex. It was old enough to have a shared attic and the phone lines for all the units ran together in the wall.
I used a carbon filter combined with an ozone generator and vented into the attic. I had the ozone on a cycle timer that I had plugged into a battery back up for a pc. If the power went out it would still run the o3 for a bit. Not perfect but it worked. I also remember people using stuff like a gel that would evaporate and remove odors. Problem with those are if you smell it you know something is being covered up

I grew in an apartment complex. Now, the landlord knew everyone either smoked or sold weed, and we'd smoke on the top balcony, so your mileage may vary. But if you use LEDs and either don't get a strong smelling strain or have proper air filtration, you'll be fine.

It all depends on the laws in your state. In friendlier states they won't do much to you for one plant. Know the worst-case scenario and be comfortable with it before you drop seeds, or the paranoia will eat you up.

It's definitely possible to completely eliminate odor, use a good tent, a 4 or 6 inch centrifugal fan, and a Can-Filter. Preferably Can-33. I use a Can-33, a DR120 tent, and either 400w or 600w HPS, 100% of the odor is absorded by the Can-33 and 6-inch fan.

If the power goes, you better have a low-odor, fruity strain like Cinderella99 going. How often does the power go out? How often are there inspections, or any other reason for someone to come in?

Final thought - I ordered huge, 3-mil giant contractor garbage bags off the 'net for times of crisis. Several times my landlord came by to inspect the house - in this state you have to give at least 24 hours notice before inspection. I would tear everything down and put the 2 or 3 flowering plants in the huge bags somewhere in the house. Worked every time, contains the odor, although it was a huge pain in the ass. This could also be your contingency plan for a power outage. Make sure the bag is long enough to fit the height of the plant. Put stakes in to support the weight of the bag so it doesn't crush your flowers.

If they do un-announced inspections on a regular basis that is trouble. You should be able to handle everything else if you have enough $$ to get the Can Filter, tent, and fan.

to get rid of the smell of weed

invest in a ozone gen for the outer areas ....as for the grow in a tent under negitive pressure using a carbon scrubber

state trooper next door .....has 2 teen kids so i know 3 ppl in that family know what weed smells like .......5 years no troubles at all

as for the inside i just cut up about hp of weed and jarred it i get a call from a buddy on his way over .....if he knew i had that he would be up my ass to get some for free ozone gen on cleaned up he shows up with in 20 mins smells nothing .....could not tell shit

simple rules to rem
1 the ozone gen goes on when u open the tent door .....goes off 45 mins after u closed the door (really 10 mins will do but i like over kill)
2 if the power goes out u can not open the tent ....opening the tent is bad as it will smell up everything with in mins

the tent set up is simple tent set up

u hang the carbon filter in the tent like u should ........but instead of opening up the tent's passive flaps u use a filter powered intake (this gives the plant clean air and protects them plus adds a air stop )

then just use the speed controller on the inline fan lower the speed so the walls are not concaved as much and u have made a system under negitive pressure ....but kept it cooling and the ppm in the tent as best as u can

for them to come in they must give u a 24 notice before inspection

if u get one ........rent a uhaul truck .......move everything into there and park it someplace in the shade
....they come in u get ok ....they leave u go out at night and move it back it

do soil plants ....go for autos ......this way if something does happen the lights out will not flip them into veggie

Thank god for that maintenance man!
