Defoliating Autos

hey guys i am just wondering if anyone would recommend taking out some of the fan leaves that are receiving no light, my auto is a fruit punch heavyweight seed and is kind of bushy after lst, there are a few shoots and some fan leaves that are not receiving a lot of light and don't seem like they do much. if i took them off, what would happen? thank you guys

Smaller suckers at lower stalk would be ok. Leave fans and tuck to allow tops to rise up.
Autos are hardwired to go from seed to harvest within a certain ( time window ) , if you over prune it , overfeed it , shock it or anything else ... You will just make problems.

LST the plant ... To " open it up " to light.

i lst'd at the start of it's life and got it some curve in the main stem so there are a few "tops" of the plant that are looking at the light it started to flower a few days ago, should i still lst at this time to open it up more?

I tried defoliation and found that basically, it sucks. Like you hear a lot, visible light to humans isn't the same as what the plants "see", so despite being in shade I think a lot of leaves have some value. I only get rid of leaves if I have worries of mold and poor airflow.. Even then taking less than 10% is probably best.

Im no anti defol guy, just had such good results without it this time round Id hate for anyone to be as disappointed as I was when I read the defoliation hype! What works for me may not for you though! :)

alright i definetly will just leave it be. i only removed some crusty leaves that were at the very bottom. i think they were part of the first set of fan leaves. so i will just stick to that thank you!

These are a cuppla little autos , & as U can see , ive defol , but only after a few weeks of flowering , like 3 or 4, weeks, imo the suckers , & lower shade leaves , no longer , have a purpose, & only detract from the rest of the plant, but , im no expert, good luck

I did some defol on mine. It's a yes and no and what info you get may or may not work for your strains. I just finished a GSC that spent some time in stress between drinking all of its water before I could get off work to come home to droopy leaves every other day. She'd seem like she'd stall out cutting leaf or two but I clipped a taster nug a few weeks ago and all my buds exploded with 1000 new white pistils. I'd leave it alone and do its thing. It's not worth pestering it all the time.

I had a similar situation where I went away and my watering system was crap. I had a friend come over and water twice in a week and whilst away my auto dark Devils exploded! So much so with new pistils I decided to leave it another week on top of that.. Not to mention I would've chopped the day I went away just looking at trichomes etc.
I chopped em almost 3 weeks after I went away and it's looking like my best yield to date. I could've probably gone longer but then we would be edging into 3 months or more from these autos and I wanted to move onto something else.

Yeah I need to get better at this. I came home yesterday and all my leaves were yellowed w brown spots, canoed downwards... I chopped... Only half of those new white pistils started to turn brown and curl but I decided to pull the plug.

even tho your plant got stressed, those buds look delicious.

are you curing them properly?
She's still drying. Cut the buds off the main stalk and have been rack drying just out of range of a fan for good circulation. Hoping the chlorophyll smell goes away lol

Why'd you chop? Even if they're stressin you can nurture them through it. I chopped early due to stress and my weed was completely waste. Wish Id just reverted/revegged instead

Well... I really don't know... My leaves looked shitty, don't have money for good nutes, and it was under 62w of cfl and in a very small pot... It was a waste of good genetics from the get...

Just use floranova bloom or the dry version (forget the name) it's all ive used and ive got monsters. Admittedly under a HPS but it's not expensive to upgrade your lights. Plenty of options out there. T5's, CFL's, all seem to get decent results.

No doubt. I have about 10 more seeds of that GSC. I plan on nabbing a few led panels off Amazon and creating a ventilated "drop ceiling" with those 1'x1' panels.

if you want, you can check out my grow journal for a good way to set up cfl's. it's my frist grow but in my opinion led panels are iffy unless you are ready to shell out on the solid ones with a good reputation on them. https://www.rollitup.org/t/heavyweight-fruit-punch-auto-cfl-grow-first-grow.929711/#post-13228366
but if you are ready to pay the money, go right ahead.

Yeah don't bother with LED unless you're gonna go Cob. Failing that ive been tempted by those LEC 315's lately.
