I thought this was interesting. The first part shows the question posed to American soldiers in the field, the second part shows the question posed to Afghan locals, 10 years after the attack and invasion
On the US side, the soldiers are aged around 20s-30s, meaning most of them were teenagers when 9/11 happened. This is apparent later in the clip when one of the local Afghan elders claims no Afghan could pull off the attacks and that they didn't come from Afghanistan. I was watching that thinking this guy (a LT) had the perfect opportunity to tell him the majority of the attackers came from Saudi Arabia, including Osama Bin Laden, but instead he said "Yeah, I believe they came from Yemen"!
They asked a bunch of locals if they'd ever heard of 9/11, only one guy had ever heard of the events..
So the guys doing the fighting don't understand the reasons why, and the guys fighting against us don't understand the reasons why..
I believe the Vietnam vets had a word for that type of situation: FUBAR
