Cutting Leaves in Half to Get More Thc?

Although he is right, there are a few situations that "cutting the grass" can be beneficial. If you don't know these situations, then odds are, you should leave them on there.

isn't it possible that a small amount of stress to the leaf, such as a clip just to the tip, could trigger a hormone release in the plant that could then stimulate growth?

I'm gonna dig on that for while. if you don't hear back here it means I didn't find anything.

you should try it out yourself bro. take two plants (clones preferably) from the same strain, that have similar growth qualities. grow them both exactly the same. take pictures throughout the grow to note differences in growth performance. document your findings after you try MORE THAN ONCE. then and only then will you know what cutting the very tip off of every fan leaf on the plant really does to the growth.

we get hair cuts right? we mutilate our plants during fim, and topping and supercrop?
i have heard of this......suposedly you get around 30 percent bigger yeild and potentcy.

thanks for reminding me, i used to do this 15 years ago but since i haven't grown in years i forgot all about it.

i dont take half the leaf, i take the tips, up to the first veragation. i'll include pics.

by the way, my plants are 20 days into flower with a ton of crystals so i decided to dry out all my tip cuttings and puffed the about an hour ago, i am ripped! leaf tips..lol.

anyway here are the pics of my technique.
I don't even know what to say to that.

You top a plant to cause it to form multiple tops instead of just 1. You cut leaves from a cutting for cloning in order to slow water loss and to prevent them from getting in the way and causing potential fungal issues.

Plants forming a canopy from fan leaves is an issue. The correct way to remedy this is to use SCROG or bending. Note that the leaves will rotate into the light if you bend the plant. This is evidence of the importance of the fan leaves. Also, this is why experienced growers do not grow large plants but rather SCROG or SOG. You can also do partial harvests.

In any case, removing or damaging fan leaves only damages the plant and stunts growth. It's really a very bad idea and only someone with a complete lack of understanding of plant biology would consider. Damaging fan leaves is analogous to giving your plant a gastric bypass to make it fatter - it simply doesn't make any sense.
How wrong these fools proved to be, eh? Pruning BLOWS UP your yields. I wonder how much weed these old hands left on the table because they didnt prune fan leaves correctly? Lol

My order of action is when one tip is only slightly above the next, remove the two large fan leaves at the tip of the tall one.
When the distance is larger I would supercrop the taller one close the main stem (before the first node on the branch). this allows you to bend the branch on its side so its main cola is at the same height as the lower one. It will also allow grow tips lower down on the bend over branch to hang with those.
This should be done from when the plants are young. Once you have enough colas on the same height you let them stretch and catch up with the scrog net at which point you strt weaving anything growing faster than the rest down back to the net.

The only time this is beneficial is during cloning, you cut the tips off the lower fan leaves so that the cutting uses its energy to root instead of veg, i wouldnt cut any leaves attached to buds during flower, if ur going to trim anything trim fan leaves blocking light penetration.

More roots, more fruits.

If your constantly triming leaves, its constantly building roots, no? isnt that what you just said.?

Im trimming leaves up till 2 weeks before chop. Only, i cut the entire LEAF off, not the stem, those stay. It gives the node some juice to wheen off, instead of just straight shutdown to the node. The stem must be atleast 2 inches long also before cutting.

ITs experimental at this point, but seeing great results.

I like to totally remove the stem cuz those stem ends will rot on the plant and can spread that rot during drying/curing

they fall off after 5 days or so, or pull it off after 5 days, they pretty much just come off easy, even with good fan.

ive noticed at 5 days, they are pretty much thin, and dehydrated,

I GML stripped at 15 days flip, then at 30 days flip, now i do the leaf cut stem only 2 weeks till flower. Ive never done this before. First time, so its experimental.

keep in mind, ive just learned to water correctly. my ppm was at 4000, seems i wasnt letting enough run off, or not watering enough for it to cycle thru each watering. I put recharge in, and didnt notice a runoff discoloration for 8 waterings, lol.. So i pretty much flushed with fresh nutes and supercharged with recharge. I expect it to double in size in 5 days from today.

I think when you defol, its best to water with a carb based tea or something. malassis is in recharge, so it should be greatly benifical for leaf stripping purposes.

We'll see,
