Coco grow for a beginner??

So, I am in the middle of my first ever grow (and currently having a nute issue) and am wondering if going to coco for my second grow is jumping the gun since I don't have any experience. I have the time to work with the plants everyday as I habe heard growing in coco requires daily up keep and frequent watering. What do you all think? Should I get a couple more soil grows under my belt before trying Coco? Or go for it? Feel free to be brutally honest lol

Some people would advice you to learn the art of growing pot the old school way, growing in soil. Suggesting the smoke tastes better, it’s cheaper, 100 % organic and much easier to control. I don’t know about the taste when growing in soil but I totally respect that.

Anyway, IMHO its primarily a matter of personal preference. My first grow was in coco and it went just fine. I did a lot of reading on this forum, that’s it. The only con with coco is that you need to invest in a PH-meter and a EC/TDS-meter. It is possible to water coco manually but it is more convenient to build a simple drip system with a timer.

Coco is very simple. You buy good quality washed and buffered coco, you add a coco nutrient and you watch it grow.
You can treat it like soil and hand water when needed or you can water often once roots are established.
You ph at 5.8 and water till run off and remove the run off.
The most likely problem is the coco holds on to the calcium so you keep an eye out for it and have a bottle of cal/mag ready should you ever need it. Lots of people don't need it.
Run nutrients at a reduced rate and allow 10-20% run off and your not likely to have many issues. You know what your putting in!

I just did my first crop in 2 parts coco, 1 part perlite. It went pretty well, remember to wash it first. Runoff is important, I also used a little bit of cal mag in all my feeds, about a quarter of the label dose - cant say that did anything though.

Thank you all for the info!! I think I will do a ton of research on the forums while my first grow finishes and go for it with coco on my next. I like the idea of knowing exactly what I put into my plants. With soil, all I can do is trust what it says on the bag or make my own.

Go for the Coco Grow, use a fabric pot. 5 or 7 Gallon. When my Sage N Sour was at it's peak, I watered/ fed every other day. 3 gallon pots are just too small. Make sure you get calibration solution when you get a pH pen. That or just go with the drops.
