I got an hp touch screen with amd quad core and graphics card for $300.

Had it about a year and cant complain. I have yet to have a problem with it.

Of course I only visit trusted sites and keep my security up to date.

Some people shouldn't own computers.

Win 10 has been out long enough for the bugs to be fixed. I like the fact it has xbox on it.

For every Microsoft program that cost money you can find a free version from another company on the store.

Its just like a phone os.

you got that right :)

you guys are killin' me..I started this thread back in November last year..lmao
I finally got a free copy from BG himself, free on the site, plugged in my activation number that shipped with my computer and voila! Free windows. Gotta love it..lol

10 does have its moments I want to shoot it but most of the time, its good to go. I don't have time to fret over it, just opened a new business not long ago and good god, its got me swamped. I barely get on the computer anymore which is why you haven't seen me around in so long.

I'm growing 7 different kinds of basil, mexican and greek oregano, rosemary, lavender, sage, lemon balm, peppermint, english thyme, spearmint, jade trees, several varieties of cut flowers, hydrangeas, corkscrew willows, all while trying my hand at japanese maples. The guy that is buying from me calls nearly every day to make sure I'm going strong, ain't no time for chillin' anymo ;)

good to see ya bro!

Just keep windows 7. It is far better than windows 10.
Done

you new here? I know I've not been around in a while, like, at least a few months..if so, welcome to RIU!

I'll try the whole Linux thing when I have nothing going on to distract me, in like, ten years or so..too much work to do and not enough time to get it all done. Such is life! :)

errrr, BG can suck my weiner!!

Every time they do an update they change something; file associations, default browser, mail, something. Most are just annoyances and no biggy. Well, this last update (15063.60) this month took away the icon, menu, tab etc font personalization. I had the desktop icon fonts larger and in bold so I could see them better, nope, now all back to default with no way to change. Using a free app called Winaero Tweaker which seems to be working all right. Lots of other customization stuff as well
rant over ;)

So what do you want to install windows 7 or 10?

If windows 7, try this with your win 7 product key: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows7

You can do the same with windows 10 I believe here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

I have heard you can use any legit windows product key on the windows 10 download (have not confirmed it myself).

The dell drivers page will have all the drivers you need, just enter your service tag or model here: http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Products/?app=drivers

You shouldn't have to buy the installation disks. These links should do it, if not there is always QBitTorrent and torrent sites you can find Windows 7 versions.

Install and use your product key.

Thank you for this, @outlier

Oh boy...sorry to hear that bro.

Win 10 just implemented a big revamp which includes a hidden monitoring system which will STOP AND PREVENT users from accessing torrent sites and free streaming sites.

I've been advising everyone that I know not to allow the latest update. Fuck the PC police, I've got one for them...it's been trying to install on our desktop for a couple of weeks now so I disabled Windows update in services but of course, it's STILL trying to get me to submit.

BG can suck my vag and kiss my ass too! Should MS try and backdoor that shit into my desktop, I'll be rolling it back to Win7.

Fuckers..

HOW TO DISABLE WINDOWS UPDATE IN WINDOWS 10

Go to "run" and type gpedit.msc then hit enter.

You'll get this screen:

group policy editor.jpg

Under Local Computer Policy, double-click Computer Configuration, then double-click Administrative templates, followed by Windows Components, and then Windows Update. Go through each setting and disable each one and click "apply" after each. Once done, your screen should look like the screenshot above ;)

VOILA!!!

Congrats! You shouldn't have anymore messages regarding updates or any further forced installs.

You're welcome!! :bigjoint:

Buy an ADATA flash drive, I have one that is 64 GB, and install the latest KaliLinux, Ubuntu, or any other amnesiatic Linux based OS.

They are usually FREE and updatable, they usually have QBitTorrent already in the shell programming.

This way you can boot any PC or laptop into Linux and download using a more stable and secure OS than Microsoft could ever hope to offer.

I've been doing this for years.
