some basic nuts and bolts questions...

I've done some intentional breeding, and had some interesting accidental breeding happened. This winter I want to take some of those first gen crosses (F1?) and cross them with themselves (I'm pretty sure there is a term for that...) to help stabilize the new strains. The thing is, I have limited space.

I'm thinking about doing the breeding 12/12 from seed, and in the smallest pots possible. I have 1 gallon plastic pots, and "2 gallon" (actual size 1.5g) fabric pots. I grow in a Happy Frog/FFOF mix with HF dry nutes in general.

What's the smallest pot -- using soil -- that you would go with? Will a small pot stress a plant in ways that would negatively impact the quality of the seeds? So far my plan is to put a boy and girl together in a 2x2 tent and let 'em have at it -- go full seeds. Any reason not to do that?

Also, do you guys ever up-pot after they show sex? I was thinking about starting them all in 1 gallon, sexing them, and then moving the ones I'm keeping to bigger pots... but I've never up-potted that late in a grow, so I'm not sure if its a bad idea.

that would be fine if u only want a very small amount of seeds . I would personally veg the seed untill it's atleast 6 inch be4 putting it into flower tho

up pot anytime before flower initiation for best results.
the smaller your plant container the more time you will spend providing resources.
your seeds will be as healthy and stress free as your conditions allow.

I plan on making some with just little 4in pots, not a lot of seeds but enough

I'd let it get established a bit before 12/12 ....doesn't have to be big ...a few sets of true leafs and your golden ....GL

"12/12 from seed" seems to be a method some people swear by. It seems odd to me, but I've only tried it once. From what I've read, the plants won't flip to flower until they are mature, so if you have a little one week old plant from seed and you flip it to 12/12, it will still take another few weeks before it shows sex and starts flowering. With that in mind, I usually keep them at 18/6 for the first three weeks from popping, since they might as well get all the light they can use and keep the node pattern nice and tight as they initially form.

Interesting ....learn something new everyday .....I had to get my seed supply up last year ...I was bummed to have to do it ...but I'm so glad I did now .....got loads of seeds from a few different strains ....ran some of each this year and didn't have no surprises.
