@Moflow @coreywebster @Randomblame hey guys I need some quick advice please. I want to order a HLG-320H-48A but there is no stock on TME website. Other websites are much more expensive. TME have the B version. I know I'll need a potentiometer to dim the driver but I don't know what I need to order and how easy/difficult it is to fit the pot? Can you advise me please? Do I need to do any soldering? I've not got any solder eqpt...or experience of soldering!
Thanks for your help......thanks @lukio for letting me use your thread as a messaging system :D
You want a 100k pot, available on ebay for about 50p-£1.5
You wire blue/positive wire to centre pin (of 3 pins) then black/ground to left pin. You can use right pin, it just changes the direction you turn the knob to dim.
Its easy to solder it, just buy the cheapest soldering iron you can for a few quid. You might be able to do it just crimping the wires on the pins but not tried it.
Seriously though its the easiest thing on the whole build to solder.
Part 7 of 7 of growmau5 DIY LED basics covers it well.

Thanks very much for the quick and precise info man, much appreciated!
The cheapest A version I found was ~£30 more than TME! Probably handy to have a soldering iron too....especially as they are cheap!

No worries, I got myself a nice temp controlled soldering iron, but I needed the precision since all my cobs are soldered. For what you want you can use a cheapo, wilko do one for £12 but screwfix do one for £9.
Happy soldering
Thanks man! There is a Wilko 10 minutes walk from home :) Plus they sell a few other bit's that I'll need so it's all good.
Strips for veg ordered. Strips for flower ordered. drivers for both ordered plus a APV12-12 ordered for the fans going in veg cab. I'm getting there.... oh btw do you know a good cheap source for aluminium angle please?

@coreywebster With the pots I'm not sure exactly which to buy? I'm seeing linear mono, logarithmic mono plus stereo for both those types and 1 with a switch. I believe some are for audio? I *think* it's the linear mono I need?

Hey Stoney,
this is a single but stranded wire(16x 0,2mm), the describtion is miss-leading.

You need something like this:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1-5-20-50-Meters-ZR-BV-1mm-Square-Single-core-hard-Wire-Copper-Electronic-Wire/152695872051?hash=item238d621a33:m:mb9ICjNY9HJQVItZvSW8HYg

You could also open your phone book, find an electrician near you and ask him for a few feet.

For dimming you need a linear mono poti with at least 100kΩ or more. A poti with only 95k would limit the driver output to 95%. I take usually a pack of 5 or so to find one usable, LOL! But the are cheap...

Hey Rb...Thanks a lot for the info man, much appreciated. Does this mean that the wire is not good for the strips I'm using?
The pot I've ordered is 100k so that should be sufficient I think.....

I've cancelled this order so I'm going to order again and hopefully get the correct stuff this time! Thanks again for spotting this! :)

You can use stranded wire as well but it's not recommended by Samsung. Although non soldered single stranded connections are not as durable, you should only twist the wire ends but not solder them additionally.
BTW,
Stranded wire is easier to insert if at the same time you press the small button down a bit to open the connector.

You should test the poti's resistance with an A/V meter. A resistance lower as 100k would limit the driver and there is usually a big deviation within a pack. In a package of 5, I find some with only 91k, but I also measured others with 110k. Too much is not a problem, but not enough is bad. 91k means only 91% light output with poti turned fully open, you don't want that.

But ther is a solution if your poti have a too low resistence, you can solder an extra 10k resistor in between to get over 100k.
