Drop the delusions already. Trump is going to kill the investigations. It's what he does.

As soon as sessions is gone, and that will be soon, he will appoint someone who will just abolish the rules that allow muehler to exist. Investigation over. All facts uncovered will be under the supervision of the new AG. All indictments will be set aside.

Buried. History. Gone.

The DoJ is being weaponized. It will be used to attack enemies and prop up trump.

Tick tock. America, we had a great run while it lasted. Thanks bernie supporters, this is what bust looks like.

I am getting the same feeling. Now that the Republican faithful have accepted anything they don't like as "fake news" it is just a matter of time before every rule and law gets ripped up to serve the interests of Trump and his team of power-hungry liars and thieves. The torpedoing of the Supreme Court appointment was a watershed. The Dems never should have allowed it to happen. But they expected an easy win in the general so they were not willing to go all the way for it. Not only that but they used the same technique to delay the appointment of a multitude of Judicial seats that are now being filled by Trump with the only real "extreme vetting" he will ever do - are you willing to ignore the law in order to advance the cause of the religious right. We are stuck in this for decades.

This is what the beginning of totalitarianism looks like.

The Rob Roy Moore situation is a perfect out for Trump. He can dump Sessions in the vacant seat (the one left vacant when the Republicans refuse to seat Moore) and appoint a new AG with even fewer scruples than Sessions. Then the gloves will be fully off for Trump to direct the DoJ at anybody he wants including those who were mean to him on Twitter.

"The saddest thing is that because I'm the President of the United States, I am not supposed to be involved with the Justice Department," Trump said. "I am not supposed to be involved with the FBI." - Donald Trump, better than Hillary.

Most people don't realize it, but there is no law empowering muehler. The special prosecutor law lapsed under republican control years ago and was not renewed.

Muehlers authority comes from DoJ rules, set by the AG in a long past administration. The current AG can at any time change those rules. Poof, no more special counsel. No more rule of law.

Remember the power that herbert hoover had? Only he was not under the thumb of any president. The next hoover's will be.

Here is an excerpt from a story that drives that home:

If Moore remains the official Republican nominee and if he wins, expelling him from the Senate could set up a dangerous possibility, former acting solicitor general Neal Katyal warns. If Moore is expelled, one of the leading candidates for Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey to appoint would be … attorney general and former senator Jeff Sessions. That in turn could lead directly to the end of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into the Trump campaign’s Russia ties:

If Sessions returns to the Senate, however, Trump will nominate another attorney general. And you can imagine what kind of litmus test he’d have for his new choice: Trump would want someone willing to shut down the Russia investigation. The presidenthimself has saidthat he wouldn’t have made Sessions attorney general if he knew that Sessions would recuse from the Russia investigation.

Notably, a new attorney general would not even need to fire Mueller. Mueller serves under regulations that govern the appointment of a special counsel. I had the privilege ofdrafting those regulationsnearly 20 years ago. We all knew at the time that they were the creation of the attorney general, and could therefore be revoked by the attorney general, too. So a new attorney general could simply repeal the regulations. Mueller would go poof, and his investigation would cease. Any facts, prosecutions, and investigative material that Mueller had uncovered would then lie under the supervision of the new appointee, selected by a president who’s been vocal about his objections to Sessions’s recusal.

Trump is fucked. If he wanted to get rid of Mueler he should have done it before the indictments were handed down. Anything else now has the look of interference with the investigation. The more desperate moves Trump makes the harder the trap closes. Nixon learned this as well. He tried to stop the Watergate investigation. Did not work.

Nixon had a different congress to worry about. This one won't convict him, or even pass any laws restricting him. Either of those will take 67 votes in the senate, which simply don't exist.

They could have, for example passed a law barring him from removing, defunding, or eliminating the office of special council, but they don't see a need.

And therein lies the problem. They don't see a need to change anything.

Trump is fucked like Senator Rob Roy Moore is fucked. We'll see.

Yup. I don't expect them to wait until the next election.
Enter NK, they'll bring us together. The Saudis did it in the 70's with Oil that's a possibility as well.

Even if they did manage to hit SF or Seattle with a missile, imagine the commerce necessary to rebuild.

(fresh toke) Is the Apple Corp escaping the kings control as we did 200+ yrs ago?:eyesmoke:
Not changing the subject just good weed, and too much time invested in writing to delete.

i've started writing this 5 times.....and each time, i realize i have no idea what any of these fucking psychotic weirdos would do if NK actually launched a missle at us.
the only constant is theres nothing good in any of the scenarios, with the exception of the annihilation of NK.
intervention from China, Russia, both...extended global nuclear exchanges....troops on the ground in asia....troops on the ground in eurasia....troops on the ground in russia....
perhaps this magical impeachment will happen in time to prevent these two hydro-cephalic children from killing millions in their fight over who has the biggest head

Everyone keeps talking about this magical missile. It doesn't exist. If they use nukes, they will be short range tactical strikes, not long range strategic ones. The long range claims are only that. They just don't (yet) have a missile that can carry a payload over that distance, nor do they likely have a payload that could be delivered via missile light enough to be practical.

But even so, they don't really need them. Military experts say that if nk were to launch a conventional attack against sk, they would quickly overwhelm both us and sk defenses. They have a huge numerical advantage and they are a professional army. Sure, we have better tech, but the analysis shows the numerical advantage would overcome our defenses.

Their losses would be astronomical, but they could win if they had the discipline. Keep poking and provoking, and sooner or later they are going to explode.

But the missile thing is just fear mongering. Both sides are guilty, but nobody really takes it seriously yet.
