Seed Production. A Tutorial

fdd2blk- I wanted to get your opinion on another method. I was having problems collecting the pollen sacs at the right time and then the sacs sat for a week and there was this goopy mess in the jar?

Anyway, this time around (since I am playing with dieselryder) I took a zip lock bag and put it over the male. I cut holes in the upper part of the bag to make sure condensation didn't build up. When the sacs are ready they just drop the pollen into the bag.

Do I need to let that fallen pollen dry? Also if I tool a q-tip and dipped it into the pollen and rubbed the hairs, is there anyway you can screw this step up and it wouldn't work?

i let mine dry.

i have pollinated in the past and it's not held. i'm not sure if the pollen was bad, the females weren't ready or they just didn't want to take.

is there anything special to x breeding?

does the amount of stress or light a male recieves change anything with the seeds. i'm thinking when i get a male, i will put him in a low cost low light box until pollen is done, most likely trimming it down and putting a cfl or 2 over the sack site.

btw, this is good- it should be on wikipedia

i don't think stress will affect genetics. it might make for a weak male but the pollen should be genetically strong. as strong as the parent plant anyways.

FDD, it's proven once again that you ARE the man!!! I found 2 males yesterday, and separated them in another room. I woke up this morning trying to figure out how to do this without infecting my grow room. You showed me what to look for, and how to store the sacs. Your timing could not have been better!!!!

Quick question, is there a specific time which plants should be pollenated? If I have been growing my plants for breeding purposes all in one crop, is it safe to let things happen "the natural way"?
