My Little Garden Of WeEden

Well, at least that's what my girlfriend calls it. Me? I love it. The whole shebang.

I'm a brand new, first time grower. I may have failed to properly educate myself in terms of preparation, but I'm learning as I grow. I'll tell you what, though, I'm sick and tired of buying crap ass bud from jerks who half the time can't get it, always overprice it, never deliver it, and claim it's the funk. So I painted my thumb green.

Day 16 into the grow and things are looking good, I think. The only signs of trouble are some yellow spots and tips, purple edges on older leaves and new growth, and leaves curling up. This is where I failed Prep 101, for I bought the wrong medium: Miracle Grow Potting Mix w/continuous release nutes. This being said I only mildly burned them, and the new growth doesn't show any signs of being burnt at all. I'm still using the MG and things are looking much better. The purple is even getting lighter, and the leaves aren't curling up as bad as they were. I haven't used nutes yet, either.

Here's a few pics of when they were 10 days old. To make them easier to indentify/seperate, I've named them.

The Gang 10/13/08 from left to right: "Slim" - "Stretch" - "Shorty"

I noticed the stretching right away, adjusted the lights and bought better bulbs. Glad I did, too

Here they are at 13 days. Notice the purple edges, curling of the leaves upward, and the yellowing.

Here they are at 15 days.

Here's what I'm using and achieving:

Closet grow with an alloted space of 1'x2'

3 seedlings germinated in a moist paper towel

MG Potting Mix

Regular tap water left out in a 2 gal container between feedings (pH 7)

Aloha Breeze oscillating tower

3 42 watt N:Vision CFLs rated @2300 lumens ea. (A LOT of research done on this topic leads me to believe the MINIMUM amount of lumens needed per sq ft is 2000. This is based on me finding works on the subject and averaging those amounts.)

Temp: varies between 81-83.5 degrees F

Humidity: varies between 45-49

Can't think of anything else at the moment, so I'll keep you posted. I like to be thorough and think it's paying off. I gladly welcome your comments and/or suggestions.

LMAO, I know it's corny as shit, but I have a wild attachment to them. I'm constantly looking in on them. Just my nature I suppose. But thanks for the luck, man, I know I'll need it.

Looks good LW2G, good luck, I'll be observing. Interesting looking strain.

Yeah, I have no idea what the strain is. I've been trying to find something out but I think it's way too early to tell. From what I've been reading they look more Indica, but that could just be because they're so small. They only measure 3"-3.5"-2.75", respectfully. I'm constantly looking so as soon as I find out I'll be sure and post. But thanks for the luck!

Lol, mr.x007, I hear ya, bro. Since it's my first grow I really just like to check in on them and make sure that nothing is going wrong. I'm like a worrisome parent who just brought a baby home from the hospital lol. But I'm glad I'm paying so much attention to them because last night I noticed some light yellow and dark brown spots beginning to form on my smallest plant on some older leaves. Mag def? I'm not sure, but I'll upload pics today for you guys in hopes that you can tell me something, it's really got me worried :(

On another note, a more positive one, I made a few modifications to my grow last night as well. I took out the 3 42 watt CFLs because they were "soft white" and added 6 26 watt "daylight" ones. Since they were lower wattage and lumen I doubled them up with Y splitters. If my calculations are correct this is actually better, not only spectrum wise but lumen as well. I was getting 2700 lumen ea per plant with the other bulbs. Now I get 3200 lumen per plant (1600 x 2 lights per plant) PLUS I'm using the 6500k bulbs now, so hopefully that's a wise move on my part. I'm thinking of putting the 3 that I was recently using back in there for added light...what do you think? I'll need more fixtures, though, and probably won't be able to get them until Friday, but is it a good idea? Or will I burn up my plants?

Also I think I want to bring my temp down some and my humidity up a little. I'm still between 80-85 on the temp and 45-50 rh. Or should I leave them alone? If I should modify what's a good budget-friendly way to do this as far as products to use? I was thinking a vicks vaporizer for the humidity and the temp issue is up in the air. Thanks for any info on this!

BTW here's the new pics of my setup.

You have the same thermometer/Hydrometer as myself. Look!

Lol, we sure do, man. I like your style lol. Yeah, good old Wally World, $7. Took me FOREVER to find it, though, and it was in the most unlikely spot. Took me two trips and 3 associates to find the damn therms and of all the crappy ones they had this one looked like the best. Yours holding up okay? I've had mine for a week and I accidentally spilled water on it and it's holding up perfect. I like how it tells me the "high" and "low" with the push of a button, too :D

BTW, Nebuchadnezzar...very nice looking setup you have there, bro. I'll be watching because I DEFINITELY want to go hydro if/when this works out for me.

Okay, here's the pictures of the "spots" I was talking about. It's affecting 2 plants, which is weird because the conditions for all 3 are the exact same...soil, pH, water, etc.

Any ideas as to what this looks like? I have no idea. But I went to the hydro shop today and bought bigger pots and Fox Farm Ocean Forest medium because the lady said it's the best in her opinion...which OF COURSE was the most expensive lmao. She also gave me, free of charge, some stuff called HORMEX??? She said that if I follow the directions to a "T" then I'll be able to reduce transplant shock and the roots should set quicker and better. I don't know, but it was free. But I followed the directions EXACTLY, and I have to say I'm a little worried about it. I'll tell you what all I did.

First I filled my new pots to a level I thought would be good with the Fox Farm, which, by the way, smells like SHIT lol. Worse than my cats litter box. Anyway, I then added 2 tablespoons of Hormex to a gallon of distilled water and shook it up real good, and noticed a light reddish tint to the water. I then poured 3 cocktail glasses of this concoction for the step to come. I then took my time with each plant working them out of their old homes...you know, tilt pot sideways, fingers around the stem, working the pot off of the plant. I never felt not one root break or anything, so I'm pretty pleased with how I got them out of the pots. Then I ran some luke warm water in the kitchen sink, garbage disposal side lol, and proceeded to wash off the root system. I took my time, being VERY careful, but no matter how hard I tried I noticed there were some roots (small ones) tearing away with the old soil. Is this normal??? Will it hurt my babies??? After I washed them off as best I could I then placed them in the cocktail glasses of water and Hormex and let them soak for 15 minutes each. As I said, exactly like the directions say to. Used a timer and everything. I couldn't get ALL of the soil off but I managed to get most. And this is weird too, I always heard that I should leave a ball of soil around the root system, but the Hormex directions call for bare roots to be soaked. Plus the lady at the hydro store told me to do it exactly as I just described because of the Miracle Grow soil I was using...she said it's KILLING my babies, so I didn't hesitate. I guess that's why she felt bad for me and gave me the Hormex lmao.

But the roots are the "root" of my ultimate question. I tried keeping the roots from clumping up, but I failed, every single time. They got tangled in this process I did and I'm not sure if that's okay. Is it normal? I did EVERYTHING perfect, I don't doubt it, and still the roots got tangled up like some 4 year olds hair after bath time. Should I be worried???

But here they are in their brand new homes. This is it. Finally done until flower, I hope. The pots are 3 times bigger than the previous ones so I hope that helps.

Looking good, I had the same CFL setup for a while.

Thanks, bxke. Did you get a pretty good yield? I just want a few ounces if I can to hold me over until next harvest. If this turns out good then I'll double my next grow with clones, but if not then I'm ordering seeds. Any good recommendations as to where I should shop, anyone? I want feminized ANYTHING, but I want someone who has ordered before to put my mind at ease before I drop 50-100 bucks on some shit I may not get.

My grow is still in progress, I have a journal in my sig, but I just started 12/12 yesterday, 1 confirmed female so far. All my seeds were bagseed from some dank outdoor shit grown here locally.

I know it's been a little while, so I'm back with an update. I started feeding about 2 weeks ago, and all is going well so far. I was having problems with yellowing on two plants, so I upped their dosages of nutes and they're looking like they appreciate it. The other one, however, is showing signs of being slightly burnt so I figured out I can't apply the same dosages to each plant the same. Just like humans they're showing different qualities, even though the seeds were from the exact same bag, and thus must have different supplement requirements. Other than that nothing has changed at all. Slim and Shorty are 13.5" and 14" tall, respectively, and Stretch is the lagger standing at 12.25". But here's the new pics, hope you like.

Thanks! I wanted to start flowering when they got 18", that's been the plan all along, but I'm thinking I may wait until they're 24" so that way I can take a few snips from each plant for clones and HOPEFULLY still get about the same yield I was going to by flowering at 18". Right now I'm realizing the situation I'm in SUCKS because I want to start cloning soon, but I have no idea which plants are male or female, and I know I can't wait until I sex to start the cloning process. Or do I? Do I have to clone in veg or can I wait to take clones after I find out their sex? It will suck to take clones from all 3 plants only to find out that they're all males, but I'd hate to think that they're all males anyway lmao.
