I like this new lc recipe, used to eyeball a pinch of Lme and only use that. Now I'm using Lme, peptone, and Karo, weighing out the recommended amounts. Seems to have colonized way faster And it is colonizing rapidly at 19 days. Had to put them in the fridge. I wonder if these additives like karo give some legs to the nutrition Allowing the mycelium to be fed longer, in turn keeping the mycelium healthier for a longer period of time. I kind of slacked and didn't swirl my jars at all for about 3 days, And that's when I got some of the white Floaters on top, Which didn't happen before unless I let them sit for a week or two without swirling. So to be safe I do it everyday now. I pulled out of my first jar today and it sucked up surprisingly easy For how Thick the mycelium looks.

I use dextrose, karo and various steeps depending on the intended spawn material. Corn steep, straw steep, coir steep or manure steep.
If I am concerned about sencience I will change them up.

I am still uncertain of the advantage of ketones and yeast extract but I use It anyway. If I am concerned, I will use a heat resistant antibiotic.
But these, to me, are questionable enhancements. My go to is always simple 4 percent Corn syrup with no adjustments.

As I posted earlier, I am wondering if o2 is a limiting factor as even a "fully" colonized jar contains liquid that still tastes sweet and evaporates leaving sticky sticky behind.

Seeing that syringe filling station setup makes me wonder if you really need to use them at all, other that the initial purchase of a culture. Could you maybe just rig up a whole automated system using multiple different peristaltic pumps, and transfer everything through tubing and ports instead of doing injections?

I wonder if you could turbo charge the LCs even more by making some kind of bio reactor hydro setup, like they do with tissue culture explants to get even more constant DO for faster multiplication.. Maybe even put a small titanium cell with a little bit of current to produce some HHO gas through electrolysis. I've been reading lately about the benefits of hydrogen gas therapies, and drinking infused water, etc. I wonder how the mycelium would react to the broth being infused with pure hydrogen and oxygen.. Or if the sugars would react and create toxic byproducts..

Well they make a sort of self filling, "dosing" syringe setup ( was that ctually what i saw in the vid? Duno) that I have had my eye on for along time i think they are repeated pipettors but 60 ml syringes will allow 12 bags to be adequately innoculated. There are what? 150's? 160's out there but I found my few experiments with them to be unwieldy.

Happy new year guys! My only resolution was to finally start growing out some cultures. Kept putting it off all last year. I made my first ever pot of no-pour agar containers last night, instead of going out to party. :hump:

They came out looking so good, and i'm pretty stoked! I used a big silicone measuring cup, and it just so happened my new immersion hand blender I got just for blending mediums fit down in it perfect, so I could both heat in the microwave and mix super well, all in the same cup. I also used a turkey flavor injector to measure out the precise amount for each container. I'm sure it would be clear as glass, but I used activated charcoal powder as coloring, so its shiny and black as midnight. Ahh yeah!

I like just using a drop or two of food coloring. Very handy for organization and the more whispy mycelium.

I just watched it again, it's not quite what I described but what is to keep one from simply attaching a needle to the end of the tube and just using that as your inoculation syringe rather than filling individual syringes? Replace the needle after so many innculations.

I’ll do it like this once in a while.
If I was serious about growing gourmet and or medicinal i’d fly down to Arizona and take his course. This dude is the man.
But usually i’ll just suck it out with the same new needle i’m gonna hit up bags with. I squirt in 10ml per each of my spawn bags, so 3 bags per syringe. I could squirt less, sometimes do, but it works for me.

I've noticed corn is a little trickier to prepare. I tried a couple different ways yesterday. One way I did the soak overnight and then simmered And I feel they came out a little underhydrated. The next batch I did in the pressure cooker for 20 minutes at 15 psi And they seemed a little bit overcooked/hydrated. I haven't really got a tub to fruit yet using it But the jar's i nocked before colonized super fast and looked really good So I feel like it's A really good spawn Just a little trickier to Dial in. I like the idea of using food grade grains. Just seems like they'd be a lot cleaner than something like wild bird seed.

So i'm gonna get a flow hood to do my work in front of but I'd also like to get some type of filtration in the room. So I was thinking about getting some type of hapa filter to run in the room, Maybe something like this Hanging inside the room but not inside the tent.

I was also thinking maybe instead of this I could utilize my 8 inch Inline fan and carbon filter. Maybe have it standing app on the floor and exhausting outside. Kind of just want something to scrub the air in the room.20231228_102512.jpg
What do you guys think? It can't hurt right? Does anybody use any type of filtration inside their room. Normally My tent is full of plants and I had this carbon filter hanging up in my tent Hooked up to a VPD controller and probe.

Is the room the tent is in kept at the right temps?

Can you duct intake to that above filter you showing? Because ideally you’d want some positive air pressure in the tent with outside the tent air being pumped in through a good hepa filter into the tent. That would be ideal. Prob want to slow the fan down just enough to create that positive pressure.

Ya I can keep it whatever temp I want, it's a 10x10 room And all I have to use is a awesome is a oscillating tower space heater. During the summer I use a window a c. I could definitely ducked air into the tent. I would just have to make sure it's filtered properly. I have a small six inch duct fan, Six inch inline fan and carbon filter, And eight inch in line fan and carbon filter. The duck fan just runs at 1 speed and it's pretty low the others. I can adjust with my a c infinity controller and just run it on the number one setting which is really low. So if running the carbon filter And inline fan inside the room but outside the tent Ducting it outside, Would that create positive pressure inside the tent? I may get a nice little hepa filter and just hook it up to my duct fan with a prefilter on the other side.

Your flow hood will likely be setup more like a fan filter unit (most people seem to use FFUs for myco instead of actual LFHs), which is what they put in the ceilings in clean rooms anyway. In other words, you might as well just buy or build another FFU, and duct it in a way where it pulls in fresh pre filtered air from a different room or your central air system to get your positive pressure while venting and scrubbing the room.

Ill be honest i didnt read a thing have no idea whats going on just wanted to say, in the middle of the pandemic i decided i wanted some shrooms so i went online got some spores got these bags that came with everything in them i needed. and i didnt use a hood or nothing special just a lighter to the needle and stuck it in the bag. and boom i had mushrooms was great and super easy.

If working inside a large grow tent, just mount a couple of FFUs up top(or wherever?), and you basically have a portable clean room!

Great idea. I may go this route that way. My four by eight tent is just a clean Room maybe even Hang something In the room the tent is In. What about this I could hang the 8 inch carbon filter with a prefilter on it inside the room, Connect it with ducting to the inline fan, And then on the other side ducting and a hepa filter. Hang the half a filter inside the tent. So it will be pulling through the carbon filter and pushing through the hepa filter.

Something that has me thinking is that things started to go bad when I turned off the window air conditioner which was recycling air and turned on the space heater. The stagnant air could be causing some problems also. I've been using my still airbox inside my zipped up tent to knock jars, And inside the still airbox I couldn't even get my Torch to light because of the lack of oxygen.

It used to be that easy. Good times LOL.

Taping some of the more expensive allergen/mold rated 20" x 1-2" furnace filters up to a cheap box fan works pretty good for general scrubbing of a room. Check out DIY corsi-rosenthal boxes for more effeciency. Not really true hepa.. but test prove the cheap box fan filters scrub like 90% or more of the overall air particulates out of a room. Even better than the smaller single hepa type air purifiers, simply due to having like 30 times the filter surface area, and way more air flow. I make and use them all the time. Having a few of them running constantly outside the clean tent would keep the majority of dust off your stuff in the room, and help basically double filter your main flow hoods pre-filter, and keep the main filter extra clean & lasting for years. Save you the small fortune of buying extra hepa rated units to try and clean the whole room to lab standards.. That does sound nice though!

I think you could get away with just strapping an FFU to the side of the tent, and work with that as is. Instead of swirling the same air around inside, make it blow all the way through and exhuast out the other side, so it flows through in one direction through the whole tent with positive pressure....

As far as the inline carbon filters go, i'm pretty sure that eventually they build up and start releasing whatever crud right back into the air. At least in aquarium\water filtration setups that is the case, so not sure I would trust them not to shoot out PM spores or whatever back into the air around your cultures\grow space.. especially a used one that was around plants, etc..

I have a feeling that is my problem in the old bloom room too. 2-4ton minisplit handlers. Only have one on. But i can def see chit getting blown out of that thing.
