Yes pot is addictive, it also had withdrawl.

And people boot up heroin because they want to, not from the addiction, right?

i dont really know on this one. i think that its probably like other substances, it may have addiction potential, but it depends on the person. some people just have more addictive personalities, and some dont. i've never really been one to get addicted to anything, i typically smoke bud daily, but if i dont smoke for a day or several days, im fine. if i run out of bud and have to go a little while without until i get paid, im fine. i have no symptoms of withdrawl. but thats just me...i dont want to say that its not addicting to others because it might be.

i think that pot probably isnt physically addictive, but likely psychologically habit forming, and thats why it seems addictive to others.

*edit* i just found this here, which suggests that it can cause physical dependence to some, but whether you can become physically dependent or not is determined by several factors including genetics. http://health.lifestyle.yahoo.ca/channel_section_details.asp?text_id=3058&channel_id=1004&relation_id=34327

"Is marijuana addictive?
It may be. It's important to know that inappropriate use of marijuana can lead to physical dependence and addiction. Physical dependence means that when a person stops using the substance, they develop withdrawal symptoms. Dependence has been produced in experimental studies following a prolonged intake of high doses of marijuana. Withdrawal symptoms include disturbed sleep, decreased appetite, restlessness, irritability, and sweating. Physical dependence is not the same as addiction. Addiction is a psychological need for the drug that leads to cravings, inability to control drug use, and an uncontrollable need to use the drug despite the harm it may cause. Whether or not someone becomes addicted to marijuana will depend on a variety of factors, such as genetics."

i think that weed is only psychologically addicting - not physically,, i have stopped different times - once for 4 year and my friends have gone on and off and i never really see issues stopping, but you do feel different - perhaps it is addicting in the same way as having an expensive hot tub in your bedroom - you want it to stay rather than tearing it up and not using it right?

I was mentally addicted to it for about a year or so, but then again I could afford it. Now I'm OK if I don't smoke for a week or so. I do get the sweaty back and my hunger is curbed for about 3-4 nights but thats all the symptoms I get.

Anything can become addictive...more of a habit then anything.
Essentially.

The thing is so many things are addictions that we do not call so. For instance, people who come home and watch TV all day to get away from shit, when people are 24/7 on the internet, caffeinated beverages, etc.

Some people drink alot of pop. Like my mom , when i was little , she HAD to have here mountain dew. Then she started drinking more coffee and laying off the mountain dew. And then again , some people can just drink a few pops and then get some water. People dont go to rehab for coffee and TV. and pop , etc. even though they are infact - addicted. With weed , i dont think its a dependance , just something people are used to doing and enjoy. like a little kid getting his toys taken away haha.

Of course marijuana is addictive for some. People waste thousands and thousands of dollars on twelve step programs for all kinds of retarded shit. Some body, somewhere pays money to talk to a shrink because society is telling him he fuckin jerks off too much. let's not lose sight of the fact that it doesn't take a chemical to form addictions.

My theory? People are fuckin' obsessive, man. We find something we like or that makes us feel good, and if a little self-control isn't exercised, habitual habits form. I dont believe in STRONG addictions to any chemical other than Cocaine, Heroin(Morphine,ect..), Oxycontin, Alcohol, and other processed chemicals of that nature. Killing chemicals. Marijuana in it's purest form, still only gives you the munchies... I used cocaine for 5 years, almost daily. I was selling it, and it was there. When I went to prison, I had minor withdrawls, and never thought about doing the garbage again. i see it all the time. i've stood next to friends and chatted with them as they blew. i just dont want it anymore. Some of us are fortunate enough to be "built that way."

I guess my only opinion is... It's all in your head.

Good way to put it. I suppose that people can get addicted to it if they don't use some self control. I'm not saying self control as in not smoke for a week with weed in-front of you , i mean like if you know you have work tomorrow or something like that , to wait till the weekend.
