A newbie needs a little help.

My current growbox is 18 x 24 x 18. I know its not a lot of room but i plan on doing a LST grow. I germinated about 20 seeds paper towel method, picked the ones that sprouted there little tail and put them in there pots. The first question I have is what I should do with my lighting. Im doing a wall adapter/power strip setup, my lights are 26w cfl 2700k, I plan on running 2 power strips with 3 bulbs each, but im running into a big problem. My problem is whenever I leave the lights on the box gets pretty hot, id guess 80-90F. I rigged up a fan and put it on the inside of the box to try an put cool air on the bulbs, it seems to help but not as much as id like. I want to know about how many fans ill need to run to keep my baby's from getting overheated and should i worry about possible fire? The box is made of hard wood. Something else I forgot to mention is that the walls are all white, the power strip is ziptied to the top of the box.

I'm not much of an expert on CFLs, but it does surprise me that you are having heat issues with 26 watt lights. Are you in an area where it is hot outside to start with? Either way, you may want to get some sort of exhaust in that box so you have movement. One other thing I noticed, 2700k is a flowering light from what I understand, for veg you want 5000-6500k.

I live in michigan, its not hot at all right now. The box is in my basement. Like I said, its not way to hot but I do worry. My plants are just now starting to sprout and id really love to get it all ready and setup before they get any bigger. ATM im running 3 lights all 26w cfl 2700k like I said. I plan on ordering some 2 computer fans and rigging them up to a 12v DC adapter. All I know about my strains is that its very indica dominate, there bagseed and im moreless growing just for experience and my own smoke :). Ive considerd the fact that maybe I should get some actual light rigs but for now this is what I have to work with

it gets hot because 2700k cfls put off a bunch of heat compared to 5000k - 6500k.. put those 2700k's to the side until u get ready to flower .....get some 5000k or 6500k for veg or you will burn your seedlings

ive been were you were before trying to veg with 2700k and they will do more harm to your seedlings than they will help

Whats the price comparison on 2700k to 5000k? I wont have any cash for about a week so these have to make due for now, what can I do?

For my seedlings all I use is a double bulb 4 foot shop light with cool whites. If you have one of these around you can use that for a few weeks.

As far as finding them at wallmart, you probably can, or if you have a Home Depot you can there for sure, that was a reply to the CFL question.

2,700k CFL'S are going to make you plants climb in veg mode! It's harder for red light to get to the plant so it's going to make you plant grow in height to get to the light which you don't want off the bat. Go with a 6,500k this will keep your plant short which you want.

I use these when it's time to Flower.

3,900 Lumes per bulb and 2,700k

They also make a 200 watt bulb that's
2,800 Lumes and 6,500k - I use this for veg (I'd post the bulb but they no longer have it on the site. The bulbs are about 8 bucks a peace

I meant vegging for a month :P
So right now I need the 6500k bulbs?
5000 or 6500k yes. I have read a lot on CFLs, and looked at them at stores, and they make a daylight bulb that is 6500k. I may use them as extra lighting at some point, so I have done research. I haven't grown with them though. I may even try a full grow with them to see if they are any good.
