Yo TechnoMage , I like your setups ! I was thinking about buy air pot at my hydro store after i saw it on the maxium yield magazine...so good job, sir with healthy plants...im gonna sub this thread to see how the airpot will turn out.

PSh this is a no brainer....airpots are far superior..i've used both, ill never plant in anything but an airpot again. They are amazing, and from your tests im sure you will show the difference in growth and rate alone. Heres a 5 week old from seed in a 1.5 gal airpot

So I've found one issue with the Air-Pots that I need to compensate for. Right now the soil in my pots if fairly level. The water spreads out, hit's the holes along the top row that don't have dirt in them and then runs down the side. I really should have seen that one coming. In the future I need to make sure that the dirt along the rim is higher than the center where the plant is

I had this same issue at first, then i started letting the top of the soil get a good soak from a small initial watering, then come in and water nice and slowly and i avoid near all runoff from the upper rimmed holes. Totally agree with you on that one, but i think thats a tiny price to pay for the magic that happens with your roots

Thats the whole point of the air-pot.....the roots tips are forced into an air pocket, causing them to be air pruned..which caused that root to form multiple offshoots all the way back to teh taproot...eliminates rootbinding and pot-circling

I’m going to be trying a few new things with this grow. First I’m starting my clones out in the new cab I built (https://www.rollitup.org/do-yourself/462213-cabinet-starting-clones-vegging.html).

Here are the clones which I started this evening. The tray is sitting on heating pad and I’m using two 14w T5 bulbs that put out 1,350 lumens for a total of 2,700 lumens. My old cab used one 54w compact T5 that put out 4,800 lumens which I felt was too much. Right now both bulbs are 3000k because that is what the fixtures came with. I’ve got some 6500k bulbs ordered and once they arrive, I’ll run one of each spectrum.

The next big change is that I’m going to try using Air-Pots this time around. For the experiment I’m going to use two types of Air-Pots and two types of standard pots.

The contenders
On the left you have a standard 1-quart pot. It’s 4.5” tall and 4.5” across. On the right you have the .3 gallon Air-Pot. It’s 4.5” across and 6” tall.

Some of the height for the airpot is because the base of the pot has a gap between it and the ground. Here’s a shot of the bottoms of each pot. I'm going to veg in these pots and then switch to the larger size for flowering.

On the left you have the 2 gallon Air-Pot, it’s 9.5” across and 10” tall. On the right you have a standard 2 gallon plastic pot, the Classic 600. It’s 9” across and 9” tall.

This shot shows the gap at the bottom of the Air-Pot better, it also gives a good side view of the holes in the pot. I'm going to veg and flower in the same pot without transplanting. I'll also be using the same size of pot for flowering of the clones I veg in the smaller pots.

I have high hopes for Air-Pot. They use air pruning to prevent the plant from getting root bound and I’m very interested in seeing how they work over the long term for something like a mother plant.

I’ll be changing up a few other things for this grow. My current grow (see sig) is a 400w HPS in a Home Depot cab I modified. It’s served me well but always seemed a little cramped. This grow is going to be in a Hydro Hut 2x4 tent I just purchased. I’m still waiting on a LumenAire 6” Reflector, Lumatek 600w dimmable ballast and a few fans to show up.

Very nice sidexside info/report give you some respect when I can as this c@cksucker says I must wait 24 hours

I believe after using them, you could indeed grow from seed to harvest in a 2gal airpot with no problems

how can you make home made airpots..correctly? Just adding holes in a regular pot isnt going to prevent circling as the surfaces inside are still flat, you are'nt actually creating an AirPot that way..so obviously you arnt speaking of this method..so plz let me know what your using id love to make my own that are just as effective

We're 11 days into veg and the plants are all looking good. Not seeing much of a difference yet between the standard and Air-Pots but I didn't really expect any. From what I've read about air pruning, the differences should get more and more pronounced the longer the plant is in the pot.

Man, that's some serious growth in such a short period.

Yea, I always do a small initial watering, even with standard pots. Water runs right through dry soil. The problem was with the small pots, there's so little surface area that it still ran right out.

That last 1/2 of the video shows the important part. It's all about keeping the distance between the end of the root and the main tap root short. When a plant gets rootbound, all you're doing is getting a root that's getting longer and longer.
