if one were to buy a domain for 2 years, what would they do next? if it's just parked at godaddy what would the person need to do to at least get a home page? not a forum but just a site full of info and pics.

Are you asking how would you create the website once the domain was aquired?

If so, that's where you create a coding for the site, such as HTML. Its fairly easy, if you're not familiar with it. If you need some help with it let me know, I enjoy those ype of activities.

FDD, if you have only bought a domain name, then you will also need to buy a host. You will then point the domain at your host (Just call your host/domain provider to do that).

Then you will need to either learn how to code, or get an automated system for you to upload/edit, OR get a program that helps you with coding such as Adobe Dreamweaver. I suggest Adobe Dreamweaver torrent for the simple fact that it helps you learn coding quick and gives you a automatic visual of what your doing.

Any questions :D?

if you visit doteasy.com its simple fast and cheap.
$25 a year, but its only a gig of bandwidth - about 4000 hits a month of just
text or smallish pictures.

They sell the domain and the hosting as one package. They all should do this, much easier.

I recommend dreamweaver to build your site with in html. 4th generation means you do not have to type any code.

And paintshoppro to make graphics - easy to use.

CQcounters are really cool and free.
here is an example of the counter : Web Page Counter : Summary

FDD, you seem like you wanna try this out for yourself. Learn some basic HTML coding and put up a little information or whatever on your site and then just get more knowledgable as your go through the experiences.

Do you have a web hosting site picked out yet? Because what you do is you upload all your images, sounds, docs, whatever you're going to put on your website to your web hosting site. Then you link your web hosting server with your domain (I'm pretty sure the linkage would be done through godaddy).

I don't know a lot about it, but one of my best friend's is a bomb ass web designer, and I was asking him about it for someone else a while back.

i will provide free hosting on my server. pm me. if you have icq aim or msn we could talk on there. pm the details.

you could setup any number of free scripts that allow you to manage a basic site easily. will need some info on what you want to do.

you pretty much have to learn html it is actually very simple once you grasp it.Check the link. once you learn html all you have to do is get a ftp program and find out the "ftp address" for your sever from godaddy. Once you know the ftp address you can upload anything you want to your site with the ftp program. these links should give you a good idea on what your up against.

i was a machinist for a few years. i know CNC programming, i guess i could handle a little html.

at this point i'm thinking just a site with pics and tips. maybe a summer grow journal. i could spin off in any direction though. if any monies is to be made i would like it to come from advertisement only. i'm not out to make money off of this and i don't want to compete with this site in any way.

thank you everyone for your help so far. :)
