What the "FIM Technique" did for me....

Hello everyone, I am new to this forum and this is my first grow in many many years. And now with all this unlimited info and bs we have now with the internet i found many techniques that interest me that my hightimes mag as a teenager just didn't have.

Anyway I became very interested in the "FIM" technique, don't know why just did, so I decided to try it. Only prob is with all the searching and reading I did, I seems nobody is quite sure what it does and there are next to none as far as results or outcomes. So I decide to try it a little different on each cut gathering info I found on the net and now I wanna share my results for the next guy.

From what I have witnessed since cutting, this will increase veg time, thicken stems, strengthen plant overall, and make every node possible branch. The vert growth seemed to stop and the plants just bushed. The bottom branches seem to take off with the most growth, almost catching up to the mains. On one plant and just one cut seemed to do what the fairy tale said it would and branched 9 times. Remember I cut every one a little different to see the different outcomes, the one that did branch more than a top was the one I cut the closest to topping without topping. There was only one plant that didn't have great results and it was stressed out before I cut, but still branched the same just without the overall thicker growth and stems.

So I guess my point is, FIM will slow down your overall veg time but tricks the plant into bushing and if you do it just right you might grow many branches off many nodes that bunch up around your cut and end up with many branches off one branch. Other cuts you wont even get the two that you would from topping but you will get them elsewhere. Either way I'm sticking with it.

Hopefully these pics upload and you all can see, please be nice. No negative new idea haters welcome!:wall:

Must add: after cutting your girls will be ugly and grow half leaves but the ones after that point will be fine. My pics are 3 weeks after cutting and you can see the retarded leaves if you look.

They are looking good, nice and busy. I think I may have to give this a go.

One thing I noticed and I could be wrong, but they look a little hot, the leaves look to be curling on the edge's slightly.

yes there is some curl. some i think from them being kush and I also ride the limit on light height. they just had another exhaust installed yesterday.

But thankyou for the nice words, this is the first grow ive cared about and they have been through many stresses and deficiencies before i got everything stable.

yeah, im also fairly new to this site. I,m currently on my first grow I have done in years.

My grow looks to be only a week or two behind yours, and looks to be a very similar size grow room.
So i'm hoping you stick around and keep us updated on your grow.

cheers

You did a very good job and +Rep for going with something you have never done before and experimented. It's a bit confusing with so many oprions...LST, Topping, and SCROG for one combination. The thing is whatever anyone chooses...have fun with it.
Good luck!

Heck I have a portable A'C unit going to go in mt 8x8 tent with 1,200w HID and 500w CFL. I suspect even with a 6" HOCanFan it might still get hot LOL. We'll see.

i only have to use the ac if the temp outside is over 90 otherwise sealed room with big ass exhaust keeps it cozy you should be ok my room is 4x8 with a thousand running.100_3415.jpg I do have 8 ft ceilings though and that helps a lot i know krazy is growing in a limited space with a lot of light so he's got his work cut out.

If you run the same cuttings again I believe you may find the results will vary. My first fim grows along side another plant that has had nothing. My fim plant never slowed at all, it took on 3 main tops that had to be bent when they reached 2 foot higher than everything else. The plant never bushed out and ceased all upward growth after bending the tops over. The stem size is just like any other plant. It probably still has a month to go. It is covered in popcorn nuggets to numerous to attempt counting and I do not believe it will produce anything more than nugs. I'm sure I will try it again but with a short indica. I do no want something that goes from 6 inches to 3 feet in less than a month. I do not have enough head space.

This cut performs about the same every time og kush i'm watching this close because i know she dont like to be topped produces tons of bracnches but you get smaller buds so i am not touching mine other than spreading her out and going to see which method she prefers also got her in mainline and lst so should get a good feedback on the strain. As for the widow i know it grows so squat and compact it needs de- foiled to allow for branching otherwise has mold problems in budding phase.I think scrogging is the way to go with the widow going to get busy tomorrow and build me a scrog cage 2'x4' and run the widow under there .got one more strain for ya krazy when you ready to trade for something lol! one in my avatar<

UPDATE!!!!
Figured i would post progress so far, girls are currently in there first flowering light cycle since there dark period.
DSC06226.jpgDSC06227.jpg
But mainly wanted to show the one FIM cut that produced like everyone thinks, or wishes, it would. This is the only cut that turned out this way but i did them all a lil different to see which would be best. This was very hard to get a focused picture of but this is her.DSC06235.jpg
You can't tell from the picture but there are 5 branches coming from the very top and 4 more lower that are still above the FIM cut, so from one cut we got 9 branches total.
