what type of soil do you use? why do you use it? and wats your water schedule?

I use sunshine mix #4 at the moment. it was the highst quality organic, fasest drain comercial shit i could buy at the shop. I coulda shopped around, but it fit the profile for what i was looking for. i like it, ive enjoyed it so far. my only wish, was it wasnt hot hot. they add some starter shit that curls the mandalas first leaves(mandala is know for having nutrient excess sensitivity), it dosent harm em, its just not desirable.

please feel free to share your current soil brand, the charachteristics that made you choose it, what food you add, and just generally how you treat your soil. i want to try to see if as a comunity, maybe we can find a soil that is best suited to the ganja.

im only really interested in what erryones using now. not last grow or ten years ago. im interested in the current trend, and why we are making these choices, and ultimatly, how it is effecting our CURRENT GROWS. if any have switched, and want to make a compare, thats cool, as that is part of our choices and how it effects us. but lamenting on past soil really isint what im affter. not trying to be a dickhead, just want info on the current trends. if i want old info, im sure i can find it.

I don't grow. Yet. But I will be using Master's pride organic soil. I've read good things about it, and I'll be adding 15% perlite (by weight). I've read it has good dirt, worm castings, bat guano and several other things. And from what I've heard, it will last about 2 months before you need to add nutrients to it.

Just be warned, comercial soils like sunshine 4 and anything withstarters can be riskey for young plants. So far the starters havent harmed my plants, curled leaves, but no real harm. i would simple recomend doing alot of research, the wrong soil can fuck you. not erryone is cut to grow wit errything. My buddy uses soiless and coco ad a few others i dont care for. he cant useany soil i use to save his life. we all have different sucsess with diferent products. and btw good luck on your first grow. patience and knowledge is key. read mandalas site guides on germ and growing(saved my life) and if you can dj shorts book. it is very helpfel, and its compact. he can make you pretty good novice in 100 page book.

???? lol @nursemajor if you havent started growing yet then i advise you not to start with soil already full of additives like guano and casting's. Different stages of growth need different base and micro nutrients and having it pre mixed can affect your plants growth,yield and potency. For first time grower's and even experienced i strongly reccomend Pro-Mix with mycorizae. this is what i use and it works awesome for me!
Soiless Mix:
2/3 promix, 1/3 clay pellets,(rinsed well) thats it for the soil! the clay pellets help drainage and makes sure the promix dont hold too much water at one time, like my own version of MG's moisture control also your going to have a lot of pellets left over if you buy them in bulk like i do, so they make the best top dressing/mulch and make your set up look even better lol the mulch will help your soiless mix hold water and nutes for much longer. for food i use Advanced nutrients 3 part series and once my girls are about 3 weeks old i start them on 2/3 strengh additives such as voodoo juice and b-52 for vegging, and then big bud, bud candy, overdrive for flowering. thats it thats all plain and simple, and with AN u get ph perfect for soil it buffs itself!!so for begginers and "novice" i guess this is ur easiest and safest way to go! even works great for commercial grows. many friends of mine that are cash croppers only use Advanced nutrients or General hydroponics with AN additives. anyways theres way better mixes like subcools super soil and stuff like that but thats my personal blend and what i use with great results!

Altho, that masters might be onto something. they use bat shittys and worm castings, jusyt like me, dj short, andamost erry other real serious die hard organic fiend like me uses. at some rock dust and some fish emulsion(gross af fuck) and you got some happy soil. I love organics. i dont relly like playing with bat shittys, but its worth the clean ad tasty smoke. i wont ever do chemmies. not unless itvwas for dwc, and only as a experiment, ads ive bever used hydro, and have wanted to try it, to see the difference. i would never switch tho. i grow in dirt cause that the way nature does it. work perry good for big momma earth. i trust she knows how to do this.

Never had a problem sprouting and beginning seedlings in Fox Farm Ocean Forest or that stuff labeled Organic Potting Soil in the camo plastic bag. I have started seeds in that many times. You just don't add anything to it for a couple weeks and water well without flooding everything.

I use fox farm ocean forest with a super soil mix called depth charge that you can only get in michigan i can tell you whats in the bag but i dont know the ricpe sorry i use it start to finish with water only as far as when to water when the pots feel light its time to water first noobie fuckup is over watering just a tip

The masters in not the soil to start on. its to hot. the castings are ok. i will say this tho, i dont add. the bat shittys until day 7 of flower. and not to be hude, aor jump on ya, but this thread is about current grows and our experience with soil. i appreciate the intro to the masters, however this is a thread for established growers and our dirt... i am hoping this thread will provide usefull info to expers and beginers alike, but that will sadly not happern if the thread only contains hypothisys and talk of what we want to use.

plus the real focus is current trends and such. and what these trends are DOING for us, good and bad. i am looking for unbias facts. The more facts and less guess, the more useful this thread can be.

and quick question, im not really familiar with coco media, can a coco grower please speak up and tell me why he ikes it? my buddy just had some around and thats how he learned. but i want to know what makes people choose it.

and one last thing, if anyone is useing subs supersoil, let me know, if its 100 % worth the labour and tim involved. Someone explained it to me, and it sounded time consuming, so i just bought sunshine 4. if it drans slow, please let me know. i do not ise soil that holds mad water. i like quick drains. they help ensure the whole media gets equal water and excess run thru. thats just what im into.

I use a mixture of indoor plant soils, as I prefer to experiment often and do things my way.
I chose the 3 types of soil for the greatly varying sand, turf and nute contents, then added 10-20% well washed gravel resulting in a very fluffy mix that keeps moisture for a long time, atm i water plants around every 10 days or so.

When I transplanted into the current grow boxes I also added seaweed extract to the transplant holes in the mix, this promotes root growth.

I grow organic, nutes are biobizz brand and I also add chicken poop into the soil, and so far the plants just love it. See my grow. I will probably update the grow diary later today.

As some on here know, i do know when to water. i covered this extensivly on the " everyday watering" "thread". im only asking how each individual waters their particular media. this is all just curiosity.i have my own system i follow religiously, and will not likely change as its cost effective, (not requiring any tools other than a finger or the hands), and it works quite well with my setup, and lets face it, the finger test and the pot lift are the gold standard in checking water.

i am most curious on our soil conditions as i feel they have a large impact on the grow and the final product.
people dont give good old dirt enough credidt.

and if there are any other fast drain soil fans, let me kbow whats up. how do you do your shit, and hows it workin for ya.
Let me know of any problems, i got most of the quickdran problems wrapped up. i dont mind sharing my method as far as the use of quick drain.

and another curiosity, has anyone tried lawn soil for veg? Its high in nitrogen, so it might have value in veg.

and any sand users, let me know how thats going. ive known a few who used sand mixes. it never really caught on around my town,but if anyone likes, let us know.

I use FFOF with added dolomite lime. Watering schedule really depends on the times, temps, size of container etc. However it seems right now my 2.5 gallon pots get watered every 3-4 days. 5 gals are getting watered every 2-3 days, and the 10 gals are getting watered every 4-5 days.

What water are you using with this mix...well water....reverse osmosis ETC......

I use Pro-mix for everything. Prefer the B'cuzz brand and add nothing to it; from the bag right into the pots. Water from the tap about every two days in 2gal pots. Why Pro-Mix? Because, it's easy to work with, it's commonly available, it lacks (heavy) nutrient content, and it's very cost-effective. This being said, in a pinch I'll use (and have used) virtually anything from Home Depot and Walmart, Moisture Control and Scotts taking the lead. Good luck.

I use coco soilless.

B'CUZZ COCO with 20% perlite.

No nutrients in it as its soilless. So the plants only get what I put in.

During seedling/clone stage I use a light feed of CANNA AQUA A&B EC0.6-0.8 with 4ml per litre of Rhizotonic.

I water with feed evetytime the pot feels 50% lighter than it did after watering.

During full on flowering in 11L pots I'm watering approx every 3days with A&B.

Because I use hydro nutes in coco I also add extra Ca and Mg and I also use silica and PK1314.


I use the grow nutes the whole way through veg and flower.

I base every next feeding governed by my runoff testing. If my runoff increases in EC then I back off the next feed. If it decreases too much then I up the strength next feed.
