Is it safe to cut off the old dead fan leaves some say it's ok some say no. I need some input on it thanks

This was a rescue plant from my buddy. It was under some bad condition. So I told him I will grow it for him. But I wanted him to see i am not the only one that thinks is should go another week or 2

This is week 9 of budding I am unsure if I should let it go or is it ready don't want to make a mistake. But it is in my way of the rest of what I have started

Yeah I sunk The rockwool Cube down when I placed them in my baskets so I have room above the rockwool cube. It worked out great that's just what I did thanks

All of the rooted out the bottom of my 5in basket but this one but it's looks healthy

Is it ok if you're roots come out the top of the rockwool cube.
