Noctua makes nice fans, mine have been trouble free for a few years vs constant trouble with cheapo 12v fans. I also agree that there should be a connector they usually just zip tie the wires into tight bundles. If you do have to cut I vouch for wagos because they are easy and reusable.

I would think you would be ok, if you are worried you can leave the lights on 24 hours for a few days. In my experience it takes about a week of 12/12 for anything to start changing.
