  • Because you are going to have a tendency to swell. You'll heal faster without the swelling and will have a better outcome. Ask your surgeon. It's a little thing but in something like this procedure the little things make a difference.
Also make sure that after the corneal surgery you do not sleep flat for at least the next few days if not an entire week. A pillow isn't quite enough you want to be about 30 degrees. Not sitting completely upright more like 2 pillows and best of luck. Hopefully this will work for you as it's shown promise.
Because what you are experiencing can be a side effect of Lasik surgery. I am very impressed by your responsible attitude. Prior to the cross linking procedure have you been wearing special lenses for your Keratoconus? Any type of smoking reduces perfusion and the cornea needs maximum oxygenation while healing. So play it by ear on your post surgical visits. If everything is healing quickly then you will be able to have some sooner but I think your one month estimate is a good, conservative approach.

If you have any complications crop up the last thing you want is to have them try to fob it off on smoking marijuana. Plus you have the rest of your life ahead of you. So a 4 to 6 week break couldn't hurt. If you are an occasional smoker than stopping 3 days prior is probably ok. But the best thing would be to run this by your opthamologist who knows you.
I google searched my screen name and got a multitude of hits and saw all my posts on 2 other blog sites. I know web blogs are free domain but I tend to run on the paranoid side.
I had some security issues with google searching. So I wanted to upate my encoding and start a new acct. Nothing that would cause any legal issues, just a personal thing.
