Have used it for years and have yet to die. :) A couple years back when I started Humira I did wonder but empirical data has show no ill effects except perhaps grammer.
Quickset, these reptile heaters put out about the same heat as a comparable size bulb but with the additional benefit of no light. The 100W that I use keeps my 3' x 2' x 2' box warm enough during winter.
Another idea is what I use around here during winter. A ceramic reptile cage heater. Screws into a regular socket and emits no light.

Welcome to the world of toggle bolts and mollies...lol
If you want to hang your light from the ceiling you might consider a couple of those hooks they sell for hanging plants. Those things are good for about 35 lbs each which would let you hang a 70 lbs light with no problem.
From what I remember from high school science class, though the visible light spectrum doesn't have real bounds it generally falls into the 400 to 700 nanometer range of the electromagnetic spectrum. The light we humans see is measured in variety of measurement units, such as lumen...
Actually Babygro, ALL the lights we use in our hobby are rated in lumens. This is probably because we use these lights normally to see with.
With the broad "HIDs output about 30% PAR" comment, I thought you might be interested in these first two charts.
And finally the third charts...
Just put the seed right into the peat pellet. Some folks here use and love them, some folks hate them. A tip if you do use them is to remove the netting prior to planting. They netting can interfere with root development. Guess how I learned that one. LOL
