I had similar issues and bought a 'better grade' of ph down, and my ph is maintained a lot longer now.

you don't need the blue tube (its a water level as Tom says), but I wish my DWC had one, it just makes it easier to see how much the girls are drinking.

reviving an old thread I know, but.... How do you guys measure the IJ in your dwc? I cannot get an accurate reading with my ppm meter, so I am just going by what the bottle says, but it seems my girls are lacking nutes.

there's no problem with the method you are using, but it's my understanding the length of time the vinegar and lime will maintain the PH will be a few days at best. Proper PH chemicals will last longer.

fwiw, a computer running all day could consume 70 - 150watts/hr, which is half of your bulb's consumption. However, your bulb is only on half the time, so it's a wash in terms of energy consumption. your bulb will consume/cost as much as running a computer all day.
