If someone asks for a recommendation and our site fits the bill, is it cool to mention it? I've deliberately avoided mentioning the site because I don't want to be seen as just here for self-promotion but at the same time, I want to help when someone needs it?

Unless someone was dumb enough to scrape the Analytics code, I'm pretty sure it's the same people - if you look at the page source you can the Google Analytics account is identical which means the same Google account owner. From what I've heard they were having a combination of reputation...
