another update: So I was pretty worried before about my upper buds not filling out the way i had hoped, but now as i check out the entire plant im getting excited. Im not saying its a good thing yet, but the lower and side buds are filling out nicely, and there are too many to count. I suppose...

update: just identified some trichs on a few bud leaves with my handy dandy 30x mini microscope. There is still some hope yet!
