Cant You Vacuum Distill SUPER PURE Hash Oil?!

an update:

Chilling my condenser water by placing the garden hose in a big bucket and then filling the bucket with water, dry ice and regular ice, works beautifully... It really matters what time of day and weather we have here in the desert it seems...

The Dow Corning High Vacuum Grease does indeed perform much better than just 100% non-toxic silicone grease...

These 2 improvements are now allowing me to reclaim pretty much 100% of my ethanol. I'm going to be attempting my second reflux distillation as soon as I've reclaimed my ethanol from this regular vacuum distill.

I will most likely add the salt water solution to the toluene step and I'll just let it separate in a big jar or something then I'll just pipette out the toluene.
You should separate the alcohol layer and save it, it's likely that it's holding a lot of the aromatics.
Also how clean does that layer of toluene look after the extraction? I bet it's nice and golden, and even if it isn't then a saline wash should do the trick.
But I'm curious as to why you used toluene and not hexane or pentane, is there some advantage you could help me understand again? :)

The toluene layer did indeed come out a nice golden color but the residue itself retained a dark green to blackish color. I suspect the saline wash will help to remove those polar plant waxes that get picked up when refluxing with ethanol... The stuff defn. got me high & was super smooth but defn. had a chlorophyll thing going on still. Not much but I could tell it was there...

The main reason I went with toluene is that it's often used in other chemistry extractions, whereas something like hexane is still usable in other applications as well but the more you read the more you'll see toluene time and time again.. Really, I was just curious. My original plan had hexane being used but that stuff was like $60 for a 1L bottle or maybe it was 2L. I could get 1L toluene for a lil over $20 or something like that. I just remember price played a factor as well, though can't recall specifics as it's still early for me lol :)

I didn't get around to refluxing. My ice bath well, ran out of ice and so that was the end of my night...

Good news is the tincture that I created after decarbing in my boiling flask is SUPER awesome. I went with a 2:1 CBD:THC ratio this time. As of yet the affects are pretty indistinguishable from the 1:1 extract I made last week.

I just ended up getting a half ounce of the Canna-Tsu! = $250 and then about 5-6 grams of "god bud" which is your run of the mill, top shelf A grade THC buds = $70

Expensive, shits most of my take home pay but fuck it. It's worth it.

Here's picture of my "cooling bucket" for the water going into my condenser. I moved it indoors to improve evaporation & cooling overall. That, obvious now, is the biggest difference and the fact I didn't think of that before in the fucking desert is uneasily funny lol...

The shit hit said fan, in that the dispense I was getting the Canna-Tsu! from ran out of their supply and it's going to be a month or so until they get more... Ugh, that means I get to roll the dice on a place in Las Vegas that claims to have Charlotte's Web... I'm lucky that Nevada has reciprocity but I know that it is much like California in that it's not as "above board" as far as medical legitness as say Arizona. So, whether this place actually has Charlotte's Web or if their strain is even high in CBD is truly up in the air in my opinion.

My second option is a place just outside of Phoenix and they have Cannatonic... I'd rather go and get the Cannatonic because I'm more sure that's actually what I'd be getting than a place in Vegas but maybe I'm just being too cautious. It seems the place in Vegas gets a lot of traffic and so I'd find it hard for a place to be pushing a CBD dom. strain and it's customers not have found out by now.
The guy over the phone for the Vegas place tried telling me it tested at like 37% CBD and at that, I'm not going to lie I did laugh out loud. I covered by kinda saying, "Wow, really? that's crazy.." I think he kinda knew I thought what he said was bullshit because he ended by saying that it was definitely high CBD low THC. That's really all I'm looking for and I don't care or mind if the kid just doesn't know what he's selling just as long as it is what they claim...

The Cannatonic is supposed to be close to 1:1 ratio CBD:THC and honestly after trying both 1:1 and 2:1 concentrates I can definitely claim that I prefer as much CBD as I can get. The more the better but definitely some THC does indeed work better than just CBD alone.

Lol I haven't been on this thread in like a week.
Next time you get some cbd meds, you should make some holy anointing oil to make it more cost effective for you to medicate up bro.
I'll post some pictures when i have the chloroform made, I've been waiting on vacuum grease.

Is this thread dead? One if the most interesting compilations of experiences I've found yet!

It would be a shame to find that it went no further.

I am a regular to several other forums, but I had to make an account on rollitup just to look into this.

I know it was only a couple months ago, so it's worth the try!

It's dead for now, I decided I would rather put my glassware away until harvest comes around so I don't get charged with drug manufacture.
I didn't do a bunch of research to just abandon the idea, it's just been postponed for now, I'll eventually get it going again and I hope ideletemyself will come back to the thread and continue to post.
Glad to see someone took an interest in the wealth of information we tried to present.

Some rather sad but good news! I plan on doing some distillation practices sometime this month hopefully.

I was going to start by trying my luck with steam distillation of some winterized, carbon filtered bho, using D-Limonene as the carrier. Perhaps using a Vigreux column to help with fractioning the targets.

Any thought? I hope ideletemyself is able to make it back as well.

I imagine it would work but you would be better served talking to SaybianTv because that's how he performs distillation.
If I remember correctly he stated that steam distilling could be accomplished because the water reduces the boiling point of the compounds being distilled but I could be wrong because I don't have any definitive information on that.
I think the water needs to be totally saturated with salt as well to increase the boiling point, but how much so I couldn't tell you.

I use a Chemglass sublimator which produces a light yellow oil, sticky, and flows at room temp but clings to cold glass. I am not sublimating but rather short path fractioning and use the medicine myself. Inexpensive grades of extract are ready as pure for vaping in about 30 min. Sublimator used per Chemglass specifications.

even under a vacuum, the boiling point of THC lowers too. at 29.92 vacuum, the boiling point of THC is something like 10 degrees or something isnt it? or around 80 degrees at 29.0" ???
The boiling point of thc is correctly listed on Pubchem under the trade name of Marinol (and others) as being measure at 200C under deep vacuum of .02 mm Hg. This is said as .02 Torr, or said 20 microns. Deeper vacuum means lower point.

In this video I demonstrate a lower vacuum measured at .00075 Torr. This is three quarter of one micron. The temperature measured at the flask head when thc started condensing over was 138C. Do you see what a huge different just 20 microns or so makes on the temp? Here is the data;
