VIPARSPECTRA led vs cob kit

All tech comes full circle ..... All are basically an improvement on existing methods

COB / PCB / LED - circuit on board , printed circuit board , light emitting diodes
Light emitting semiconductors ...... Same tech , " evolving design and components "
are the things that change ... Like IC chips , smaller dies , more components packaged together.
Instead of Epistar or early bridgelux or bulk diodes from overseas , we have more efficient leds that are available for everything from street lighting to interior automotive use.
It is basically the same tech . So stating that LED is old tech is not correct ... It NEVER LEFT.

FLOUROS - T5 , T8 , T12 and CFL ( same shit , different clothes )
Most T5 tubes put out around 2000 lumen each ( 70-90 lm/watt )
Some CFL ( feint electric standard spiral ) puts out 2800 each.
Some Mogul based CFL like Feliz can push up to 18000 lumens each ( 250/300w )
I grow still using CFL , Just like a T5 setup ... Instead of 6-8 4 foot bulbs . I built a hood with 12 mixed and side lighting and grow great weed. You can bring them close without much issue.

CMH , HID , PLASMA , induction lamps :

HID : popular with large grows and commercial operations , large intense footprint , high UV exposure , produce lots of heat , works well with CO2 applications , requires distance from canopy ..... BUT ...

Gas discharge tech demoed in early 1705 ... About as old as it gets.
Lamps over 10,000 hours lose up to 70% effectiveness.
You can grow with MH only but using both MH/HPS is preferred.
HPS puts out a lot of heat ... Ballast should be matched to bulbs ( some will not pair up properly ) ... Ballast puts out RFI ... Ballast can and do fail ( intermittent firing , noise , clicking ) , etc. ...
Bulbs pop , burn , explode. Bulbs replacements can get pricey ( ushio DE bulb costs about a hundred bucks and lasts around 5000 hours ! ) fuck that.

Not all indoor grows NEED hid ... Its the most basic of design , the bulb is the receiver of power and the ballast is the engine. Effective output drops like a brick as distance is increased. At least with the other options one could maintain a relative height ( watching out for bleaching ) much easier than with the HID setup.

Bottom line ... What ever method works for you is the ONLY thing thats important.

He is correct. Lol, i just purchased a 200w 4 cob from Dan at Timber this morning! Im replacing a viparspectra 900....crazy. dont get me wrong, ive had a lot of fun and learned a ton with my vipar, BUT,if you want to get serious results- you need better equipment. Factory made panels are wasteful, plain and simple. I used to defend them quite often. Perhaps if you do some more research on PAR and PPFD you will come on over to the cob side? I am super excited again!
Wouldn't call all factory made panels wasteful. Just the burple & overpriced ones. There's some great pre-built units out these days.

Looking healthy, but you could have saved money and upped your yield if you bought a HPS or CMH light , i think pulling weight is subjective to the competition. I am not impressed. A single "600" or "900" watt light should literally be harvesting pounds ,looks like that's just a few ounces. And from your picture it looks like there is a massive hot spot right under that light and hardly any light in the corners. The only reason people recommend these lights is because they are inexperienced and never grew with other lighting solutions, trust me these are one of the worst options out there, you are better off buying cree led bulbs.
You have no experience to talk. Let it go. I loved my hps but went led for good reasons. I'm not the type to switch lights to loss even a gram. Wouldn't have don't it if it wasn't legit.

Partially agree ... BUT IT relates to grow space that i have ... Since i do not have a spare room or increased space ... I am limited to the tent's dimensions ..... I do not want a high heat ballasted light ... It is not to " impress " anyone ... It is for MY OWN MEDICATING.

I dont get airy ass weed growing with these ... All my harvests are dense and tight.
Why turn my room into a pizza oven ??? Fuck that.
There is NO HOTSPOT in center ... I focused ipad on a dark area and tapped screen to brighter picture. Pictures NEVER truly show what you are seeing standing in front of it.

I have cree and shitcanned them for citizen and vero. I have other tech to throw at them once i finish these. HPS will be and is currently an old tech .... There is currently a side by side QUANTUM BUILD ( 550w ) vs 1000w Hid ... Which will show that " bulbs " are history.
Where? Link?

Alright guys so I was in the middle of purchasing the cobs when my fiancé walked in and saw what I was buying... not a happy camper lol. Apparently spending 300 dollars on grow equipment is a horrible idea... I've tried talking to her and she said she didn't have a problem with the led light bulbs I bought for 70 dollars but she thought spending that kind of money on s light was stupid... now I gotta keep her happy... right now I have 6 14 watt led bulbs with the defusers removed. I grew one plant under it and it grew pretty well being my first plant ever grown ! What do you guys think of buying say 10 more led bulbs and growing in a 3x3 ? That would be 224 watts of power ! Do you think it would work ? Ik it wouldn't be nearly as effective as cobs but I gotta keep her happy haha
She'll be allot happier when you buy a good light, have a fat harvest n buy her some nice shit n pay the bills. Those bulbs are not gonna do that. Tell her to look at the bigger picture maybe.
You could get 1/2 # off those bulbs placing them all around the plant. What a pain in the ass. I wouldn't want to do it. Use them only to supplement spots in your garden or veg.

I do have experience, more than you do. VIPAR lights are some of the least efficient lights around and also lack in spectrum. They use epiled / epistar diodes (worst around) and cheap drivers. I never said LEDs are bad, just these LEDs, they are some of the cheapest and lowest quality on the market .

Vipar's are good for vegging I think. Low cost and good full spectrum with a lot of blue. They run very cool too, less than a 3 degree difference from room to tent. I replaced mine with a citi cob setup tho

Ok, fact remains, threads keep popping up w/ newbies apparently happy w/ them until they make the switch to white. So they can't be the very worst on the mkt.
you say allot of stuff that not true & claim you have the experience to back it up. I'm saying, you don't. If you did, you wouldn't say half the shit you do.
As long as most people here know better then to listen to 75% of what you say, they'll be alright.
Epileds & Epistars have come s long way, offer many colors & provide plenty of bright light more efficiently then they used to.
There's gotta be a food chain here, they are just towards the bottom of it. Doesn't mean they're not right for everyone. Neither of us can truly say unless we've used one.
I betchu Plat will give allot better results then they get credit for & their burple. Actually want to try one cuz I feel beet by my HH burple experience.

You are a joke, and don't even know shit about growing , your whole setup is a huge waste of money for the small yields you get. Enjoy smoking that B quality when i'm smoking A+ . You wouldn't know a good light if you bumped your head with it cause you don't know how to grow quality smoke to begin with.

Normally I would agree with Hybrid automatically since he is usually correcting you but I still see a place for burples!

Sure it takes a lot of them under driven to perform decently but like everything else, there is a price point where it makes sense. Plus they are good for parts. Take the pcb boards out and mount them on your walls. You can run 5 generic chinese panels in parallel off 1 driver. If they die they still reflect.

So it is frankenstein, but it is cheap. I have even used the aluminum panel to mount CoBs - with active cooling they work just fine.

Back to the important part, Yoda you have proven time and time again that you wouldn't know what quality is if your name appeared in the Webster definition. But that's ok the world needs special people like you too.

You guys running blurple lights are dumb asses that don't know better , and stop trying to act like they are better than HID lights because they won't even hold a candle.

You LED guys prove time and time again you don't know what quality is, you flaunt blurple lights and they are literally the worst lights around. It's sad to see you guys grasping at straws and old tech like these shitty vipar lights ,they are such junk why are you guys hung up on using epistar/epiled diodes?

Because it is fun to prove people like you wrong.

Out of the box, generic chinese fixtures are over driven, poorly engineered and not designed for longevity. I think everyone agrees on that. What we don't agree on is whether they can actually grow and even grow well.

Set a power cap of say 400w and underdrive every LED available to fit under the cap. Your HID doesn't stand a chance.

I know they can grow weed , i have used chinese blurple LEDs before ,they just arent as good as a HPS, and who are you anyway? I notice you just joined the forum today and already spammed 75 message .... maybe hybridway alias account so he has someone to talk to?

So you admit that you can't grow well. That is a start.

Who I am is irrelevant. Let's stick with the facts. The first being that you don't know how to grow anything more complicated than tinea pedis.

I never admitted that, you are putting words in my mouth and now have earned your way to my ignore list, go peddle shitty amare lights.

Seeing as your HPS grows are terrible and that you admit doing worse with blurple, I did give you some credit and was thus polite or am I wrong in stating that you can't grow tinae pedis well?

What makes them shitty?
Again I ask, what do you grow w/? Do you even grow? Fuck IG. You got a grow, show pics here direct from your phone/camera.
You say so much untrue shit & am willing to bet you're a major hypocrite.
You regurgitate things you've read elsewhere as if they were all facts. Thing is, here your talking to some of us that actually know the truth. Not all of us, that's for sure. I grow weight bud. You just spew shit that you have no knowledge about.
Want to learn something & not look stupid? PM me & ask questions. By the time we're done, you'll have a much better understanding about growing, lighting, & maybe even how to act right.
Till then, try to have an open - mind & be less abrasive w/ your nonsensible comments.
