Run Heater or Lights on for 24 hours.

I'm growing in a 2x4 tent. When the lights are on the temperature stays at about 73°F +/-
When the lights turn off the temps drop to the low 50s upper 40s°F

I have a heater that runs at 600W or I could keep the lights on all the time.
Is there any detriment to running the lights all the time during veg?

I'm trying to speed up the growth.

Leaving the light on would be a temporary solution, but sooner or later you will need to keep them warm for 12 hrs lights off. I personally think plants need rest but you'll find others that say 24/0 is fine. Its really your call. If you made some modifications like insulating the tent and put the exhaust on a temperature control it would hold the heat much longer after lights out.

I would keep lights on.
Use the heater when you switch to flowering.

High 40s will slow down your plants growth.

I have never noticed any adverse effect from 24/0.

Heater. Definitely.

Your heater won't run 100% in a tent. It will cycle on and off. Let the plants have their sleep. You will use less energy with the heater.

Science. It's correct until proven otherwise. I'm not searching for you but there is a thread on RIU with links to the science that shows we are in fact growing plants that do not require a dark period for "sleep". The only thing I haven't seen scientific evidence of is whether 24hrs of light is beneficial or not. Don't you think there HAS to be a reason these plants don't suffer but instead thrive under 24hrs of intense light?

Funny how some remarks stir such controversy, hence the reason for my standoffish reply. I could see this coming. My answer remains the same, its his call. I havent seen evidence either which way that has actually "shown" anything. This is another one of those mythical ganja subjects that gets everyone hot and bothered. To each his own.

Lights on at night when its cold

and sleep during the day when its warmer

weed is carbon neutral and I'm anthromorphic

which says weed can go 24/0 in veg but I'm a nice guy and am known to name my plants

when I have those anthromorphic fits

I added a oil filled space heater inside the tent. From an energy perspective, it makes more sense as it will cycle on/off and i have it on an inverse schedule of the lights. I have it set at 65°F-ish. So the daily temperature range should be 65-74°F.
I'm pretty sure my sluggish growth is because of the cold temps. Over the past month, since I started, I've been slowly dialing in the tent space. When I first set it up, I couldn't even keep 65°F and that was with the lights on. On cold new england days the range was 48°F - 65°F
So to date I added a fan speed control, added a piece of vent with holes drilled in to recirculated some heat from the pendent, added a fan to the top of the tent to push the warm air back down, and finally added a space heater to keep it somewhat warm in the lights-off cycle.growtentheat.jpg

IMO, based on experience, 24 hours of light induces faster growth.
I cannot prove it...but...
I tried 18 hours a few times, and went back to 24.
I am befuddled as to why this is such a contentious issue.

I do not know if constant light is the "best" regimen.
I simply know that it works well for me.

That's the complete opposite of science. In science you do an experiment over and over to collect data. And if that data correlates to one side you have your answer.

I don't know how you can use the term "thrive under 24hours of intense light" without knowing if 18/6 is better. And no, not a "I ran 18/6 this run and 24/0 this run and the 24 hour did better" that is not science. Doing side by sides with a control is science.

Try throwing a plant under a Gavita on overdrive for 24 hours a day. That plants will not be able to process that amount of light and will be droopy before you know it.

Dont listen to all the internet hype . all the pro commercial growers run 24/7 in veg and in the CLOne room . your good run the 24/7 a light will grow a heater will not.
Throwing all commercial growers into one boat to prove a point... Good try... I've been close to a hundred commercial operations (100 to 4000 lights) and I can count the number of them that run 24/0 on one hand. Do you even realize how much extra power running all those lights for another 6 hours is? You'd literally be taking money out your own pocket for a weaker veg.

I know it is a shitty source., But bruh i forgot the correct term in biology., But plant don't need any dark period to go to "sleep" they do it even at lights on. @Dr Who
