T5 veg or MH?`

So I want to start 5 plants I have unlimited space for them.

Im thinking of running a 1000watt hps for flower. And maybe 8bulb 4 footer t5?
Or should I get a mh bulb for my 1000 watt and dim it can you do that? or just a 400 mh? idk

I want to go cob in the future but I want to go low cost now and flip this stuff when I upgrade.

I recently switched from a 400 mh to a 4ft 4 bulb t5 for veg. Been just over a month and the plants seem to be loving it. I can keep the light closer for bushier plants while saving on electricity. Also better control over temps.

Cool whats the spread like 2 by 4 feet area? Can you veg 5 plants under it you think might be tight

Really depends on what you're veg goal is. For you're fastest growth MH or CMH.

right now I have 6, 2.5 gallons and 6, 1 gallons under there. It's a tad bit tight but a handful of them will be hitting the flower room soon. Probably get a 2 footer for moms and use the 4 footer for vegging clones before flower.

Just for an example, here is my growth in 21 days from rooted cutting with 400 watts of 3500k MH.

See i saw the opposite. I had an explosion of growth after switching to t5. Now i do have to say my mh bulb was about ready for replacement but I happened on a great deal for the t5 and decided to give it a go. I'm happy with it.

Did it mach that growth I showed? Everybody has their ways they like to grow. My grow needs 12 plants to be put in flower every 21-25 days.

Close. And I'm not knocking mh in any way. Been using it for years. But like I said, figured I'd try something new and I'm happy with it so far. Only been a month though.

I used my 400mh last round of veg. I saw significant growth but I topped late. Vegged for 6 weeks 6 of them. 4 got up to 36" or so. Lol. Happened quick too. Blinked my eyes and they exploded. I'm now using 4ft t5 4 bulbs. Due to heat in my room. I have a 1000w hps enclosed exhaust hood. 400mh isn't enclosed yet.... I do plan to get one though. I'll prob go back to that when doing so though. I guess it all depends on situations and circumstances.

Or a whole bunch of happy plants under MH


I'm not trying to argue with anyone, use what you wish. I've grown with everything from T-12s to CFLs. I'm just stating that t-5 are really not as efficient as MH are.

how about using the 1000 watt mh with it dimmed down to 400 watts would that work?

I prefer t5's for the first 2 weeks of veg, then to my 650 watt full spectrum led for the rest.

Go w/the T5...closer light coverage, bushier plants, less electricity. Works well for me.

Less electricity, A 8 bulb HO t-5 uses 8 54 watt bulbs. That's 432 watts just in bulbs.

What about running a 1000 watt at 400 does that work well then i can bump it up to 600 and 1000 at flower?

I run my clones under T5's for two weeks. I then transplant them, keep them under T5's for another 5-7 days till they start to root through. Once they look healthy, I move them under my 1000W MH's. They seem to love it that way. I do keep the MH's quite high but they love the spectrum

In your position, yes, I would, and have in the past, run a 1k ballast (dimmable) HPS/MH and veg 400/600MH, start flower at 600
then switch to 1k.
It's a process, once you get the garden started you'll learn and improve w/time. All the research is at your finger tips.
