Looking at a Chinese LED

Looking to start my first indoor grow and have been recommended a Mars300 (Mars 300W LED Grow Light Panel Full Spectrum Hydro Veg Flower Indoor Plant Lamp) which I am hoping to use for 1-3 autoflowering strains. What do you guys think? Am I an idiot or is the Mars300 going to be okay for me to use for what I want?

You'll never know till you use it. Learn to grow to the tool first. Then, if for some reason you want to change lights down the line.... It'll keep things new.

That's my logic.

Chinese Led gives you brain damage :wall:
Well I just ordered the Mars Hydro 300 before seeing your reply, looks like I'll be getting brain damage :D
It's only for my first grow, only doing it as a hobby lol
they have good customer service so it should be okay for the first year and make my money back

The Chinese LEDs are inefficient when it comes to turning electricity into photons. You would be better off getting a 250 watt HID set up.

i used a mars hydro reflector 96, i got some good dense smoke, and alot of fluffier buds that may have been better with a better light.

it did pay for itself first grow, and it was a cheap and easy way to learn.. and then upgrade after you save on buying smoke from your first harvest.

I use to use a 400watt with a switchable ballast. HID/HPS. Love the lights. Hate the heat. Thinking before the switch, I was doubtful LED would even work. Back in the day when they first came out, they were a joke. Gamble on getting pi$$ed off type thing.

Today.....Ill never go back to HID. LEDs are incredible.

Inefficient? Growmau5 covered them in his latest video. Primarily he discussed the efficacy numbers between the epistar led's that most of the crapo lights use vs hid vs cob. It ended up being something on the order of .7 vs 1.3 vs 1.7.

But if you have enough epistar light, they can produce good bud. They just won't do it as well/watt of other light sources.

Nothing is going to be cheaper right now than a used hood and ballast for an hid. Heck, they will probably throw in a free low hour bulb or two. But that comes with a lot of added heat and higher electricity bills.

Note: Mars claim that their latest reflector and pro lines don't use epistar anymore. Fwiw.

I was thinking of buying some of those cheap Chinese lights until I read the forums for a few days. I have never done a DIY before so i think I'll start off with one of those kits from Timbergrowlights for starters, Pre-wired is useful for someone new to LED and I am pretty sure i can build a frame.

Honestly the best deal that made me even think I might not need to go diy was the 900W Vero frame pre built from northern grow lights.

But I love building things so that wasn't ever an option lol
