We have Fucking snow on the ground in some some areas and ticks are already out! WTF?
I have had two dogs that both picked up Lyme's and anaplasmosis from deer ticks. if found early it's not bad, a month of antibiotics and pooches are usually good to.but once infected it will always be in the dog(dormant)i guess it hides out in the pancreas..

Jesus H. Christ, yet another tick borne disease I never heard of..and in my neck of the woods too :(

(CNN) Summer is nearly here, and it's bringing fears of a rare tick-borne disease called Powassan. This potentially life-threatening virus is carried and transmitted by three types of ticks, including the deer tick that transmits Lyme disease.

Over the past decade, 75 cases have been reported in the northeastern states and the Great Lakes region, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Though no one can say how many infections will occur this year, warmer winters have led to an increased tick population, so experts predict rising tick-borne infections of many types.

"About 15% of patients who are infected and have symptoms are not going survive," said Lyons, who is also an assistant professor of neurology at Harvard Medical School. "Of the survivors, at least 50% will have long-term neurological damage that is not going to resolve."

Ticks are no joke..I have chronic Lyme disease...I have had it close to 13 years..it took them about a year to find out I had it..never had a bull's eye..not every one gets one..the Dr had me tested for it on a whim as I was in pain alot..muscles an joints an spasms...at first they thought I had Fibromyalgia..which is close to the Lyme symptoms..come to find out ..if you have it over an extended time an not know..its basucly untreatable..its chronic..you can take the meds to put it in some thing like remission..but it does return..I see a Lyme Dr specialist now...I belong to a Lyme support group also..so much info on lyme the general public does not know...last year we had a 10 year old boy who passed away from Lyme..it effected his heart muscle and basicly caused hear failure..

Again..Ticks are no joke..I use a spray on my clothes now when out an about in yard an woods...the application is good for 7 washings..I use just these clothes for out door work,,stuff works..also when removing a tick use either twezzers or the tick removal tool you can buy..dont want it to puke back into you..sending contaminated blood into your system..so burning them is bad..or covering them with vasoline is bad..need to dig deep to get it out..

now the bad news..a recent study has shown not only deer ticks..but also other ticks..the wood tick..brown tick an dog tick carry vectors worse than Lyme now...can be deadly..if you have a tick on you..contact your Dr an have them start you on Doxycyline right away...my state just passed a law to get help for people who get Lyme..some Ins companies think Lyme is a made up thing..and hate paying the cost of the tests..there is a new test now that shows better results..the older test was hit or miss...s

so much to learn on tick diseases they are just beginning to find out now...sympthoms can show up a year later..it can stay dormant till it blooms in you..no matter what tick bites you..get medical attention..

I have learned so much about ticks from my Lyme Dr an support group...I wake some days feeling like i was hit by 10 semi trucks..other days feel fine..its no joke..

Also they are finding out that the bacteria that causes Lyme is mutating.so some meds do not work now..like doxycyline..

I do not wish what I go thru on any one..so always check for ticks when in the woods..use a spray to repell them..wear light colored clothes to see them on you...check your head also..they do burrow in there..if you find ticks on you..remove clothes outside..dont bring in house till in a bag...

AGAIN..TICKS ARE NO JOKE

I was watching a program about strange events and one of them on there was about a disease ticks carry that can make you allergic to meat.

The tick they featured was a Lone Star tick, popular in the US. They said the effects were temporary but in the mean time you have almost the same reaction to meat as you would peanuts if you were allergic.

AGAIN..TICKS ARE NO JOKE[/QUOTE]

So true!! Being diagnosed and treated for Lyme's disease 4 times and now believing I have chronic lyme's the statement "TICKS ARE NO JOKE!" is as serious as a heart attack. Lymes really messed me up. Like said in the previous post, some days I am fine and others are down right miserable. Headaches, exhaustion, muscle aches like no other, disorientation, etc etc... Then there is the Doxycycline, that stuff does not cooperate with me at all. Makes me extremely nautious, dizzy :spew:.

Please take these nasty lil bugs serious people. They are no joke !

:peace:

Nasty little bastards ! They are THICK this year in upstate NY. I have been pulling them off the dog all winter. Since the weather has warmed up things have only got worse here.
More good news , watched a bit on wsj the other day about the upcoming season saying it will be the worst yet. They also said 38% of 800 ticks tested so far carried Lyme disease , these were random ticks sent in by people who found or removed them this season in CT. Heres the news bit, some good info.

And for those who like conspiracy theories. Just do a search on where Lymes disease came from and why.
