i promised to post the new home made unit when i got it running, here it is100_2543.JPG
i have the money to spend, i just get stubborn sometimes. the prices they charge for heatsinks just piss me off, its just fucking milled aluminum ffs, not gold plated platinum. so we made out own, angle aluminum and c channel thermal glued together, cost 12 bucks, and works great, its way warmer than the boards ever get 100_2544.JPG 100_2490.JPG

in both 3000k and 5000k, alternating rows. still running off the same power supply and buck converter, the plants seem to be loving it.
i have the power supply with both boards plugged into a kill-a-watt meter, i'll post what it draws from the wall in a couple of days when its had time to get a good average.
the small board is set to 2 amps and 44 volts, and the new board is set to 4 amps at 42 volts, neither one is getting much more than warm, and the plants are eating it up.100_2542.JPG

I dig the low buck approach here.

What the max temp for these things? My 2 QB288 running at 2100 mah with the slate 1 are currently running around 140F at the board and heat sink. The tent is nice and cool like 75F. Is that okay or should I get some air on these things??

i like how it seems that when lighting with QB's there are no shadows anywhere!, look at the plants in the last picture, where are the shadows?

i just saw this on youtube, its like crazy big quantumboards. 24V or 48V @ 100W a panel take a look:

got 330 LED's per panel and 6 panels

how do they ged rid of the heat? or isnt there much heat to get rid off?
looks like the aluminum sheet they are mounted on would get too hot. Im thinking about a build like this using samsung strips and an aluminum sheet as a heatsink. I figured to use one or two 200 mm comp case fans to actively cool them.
