Great places to retire?

he said he was, and backed up everything else he talked about. i never had a reason to doubt, and the article references him as 'sergeant' christian, phillip austin...
The article screwed his name up - Phil didn't serve in the military, his brother was SF Marine and was killed in the sandbox in a green on blue attack (and those are his brother Eric's dog tags that Phil wore). There are pic's somewhere around here of Obama handing Phil something at the funeral.
I talked to one of his business partners sometime back whom told me he had died in an accident in Costa Rica (which does not really surprise me given the condition of the roads down there) traveling from his home in Golfito to his condo in Los Suenos.

For those that want to have a bit more insight into Phil and his brother Eric:

And I don't think Phil would object to me posting his picture now.

I've read his story in another thread about a year ago. This still makes me so sad to read about for some reason. Maybe just an age thing: reflecting on one's life. From what I had read of him he sounded like a person one would be fortunate to know.
@smokin away

You could settle in WA state, but the taxes would be the end of you.

Hey, I never expected all the replies. Thanks everyone you have been helpful. I'm hoping all will be well in the US sooner than later. Some of us still depend on our right to privacy however fragile it may be. Currently stuck in FL as I must have warm winter. Wish I had more dollars but struggle with what I have. Love reading about everywhere and hope where ever you are you find a way. Peace.

I'm inclined to sway in Mexico's direction. The Govt. has legalized and is working on opening stores. They also have Govt. healthcare at a reasonable rate. The only place in the States I can get to is CO where stores are already open. Don't know if Medicare Supplements are available? One would have to learn Spainish in order to communicate to live in Mexico. Moving is hard to do in any direction after putting down roots. Guessing a trip to CO for seed may work for a nice vacation. Heard Boulder is really sweet.

I'm a senior looking for a place to retire where everything is legal. Finding much repression in my current location. Thought it would be nice for folks to be able to post such places for those of us searching.

yeah i remember it well.. he just kind of disapeared. we talked a lot also. some people here might remember he tried to do a contest and the mods shut him down quickly and me and one other member here said something about it against the mods. he was just like, you two get 500 each to spend at greners. after that we got pretty close and he offered for me to come down on a fishing trip. wish i did. he was a really cool good guy
I remember that. I informed him that I won and he didn't believe me.

Rest in paradise scooby. Guy was cool as fuck!

Colombia. I live here now and even though I might go back stateside at some point I am def. Retiring here if I live that long. Look at Bucaramanga. Medium sized city, good infrastructure good hospitals, and the fairest cost of living vs. Quality of life in colombia....its mild weather warm during the day and nice and cool at night....

I'd say Colorado but things are getting more restrictive here, in spite of the citizens of my fair state voting repeatedly for legal weed without restrictions.

I like the Philippines. Yeah, cannabis is really illegal unless you have $20 and then nothing is illegal. And the people are awesome. Actually the cops don't care what you do as long as they don't think they can shake a bribe out of you. And the weather is awesome. Lived there two years, got bored so I came back, as a dog returns to his vomit. Cambodia has a very very relaxed view on cannabis as well as most drugs. Vietnam is also excellent. I like Asia, I find the people much less aggressive and much more welcoming to expats than South America (personal experience, your mileage may vary). Oh, and $2000 USD a month is enough to live well.
Money only goes so far anywhere in the world, but having the biggest trailer in the park makes you more popular than have the smallest mansion in the Hills.

LOL, Don't sell meth and you have nothing to worry about. Seriously, I know. But keep reading that American propoganda. America doesn't like the new boss because he isn't in our pocket. Good for Filipinos, bad for America.

Ya, hey wait till you grow old. In the old days we could go down to Ft Lauderdale and party. Can still taste the Columbian I got in '74. Meds won't go sale till next year and they want $200+ for a card.
