How to grow autos properly

Yes. Those are autos.

Couple of reasons. First is the tap root influences flower. Ruderalis grows where the days at long and there is permafrost. They had to develope a flowering mechanism. The tap hits permafrost and they flower. Bigger pots, bigger autos. Those were in 15 inch wide pots.

The next is feed. Feeding flower nutes will induce flowering. Feed veg nutes all the way through or at least until stretch is over.

Plant straight to final pot. No paper towels or plugs or cups. It makes a difference.
That's about exactly the the things I was talking about with Mephisto. We started discussing the "male" from fem seeds and the "twin" plants from 1 seed I got in the test pack for the comparative grow...
He was interest in how the "twins" ran and was kind of taken that I got both to live and finish....he liked the details on how they grew like 2 weeks different.
He blamed my short size and yield to them being solo to then transed to 1 gallon Plant warrior pots (The pots with the "air cone" rising from the bottom)..
He almost exactly said what you did about roots and size......He said taller pots yield better and wider is next.....He suggested i try some outside and sent some for me to try that with.....He said I'll like the yield from that....unrestricted root growth....

I thought that sounded rather interesting to see.....Won't cost me but some "shit" for nutrients.....Why not...

@dannyboy602

Here's the one's from that comparative that finished first (not the "twins).
Untrimmed about 2-3 weeks from harvest.

Like I said, it was nice.....I figured twixt 19 - 21% Good flavor ....I let them go long and they were starting to tail....
Everyone who tried it liked it!
My wife went back and bought her own, because she really liked it.....She'll have them in her greenhouse pretty soon. She was out yesterday working space for them and building the soil.....Shit, she has Broc, lettuce, greens of several types and even a cpl of summer squash and zuc's in there already....Not to mention the seedling tomato's and other things wait for the weather to settle in.

Autos aren't terrible I was your usual newb who started with em but they worked good for me as I just grow for personal. With work I can get em to yield 3-5 zips a plant , 5 plants in a 1mx1m area is a good hull for just 70-80 days from seed. I'm gonna start photos here pretty soon as I haven't done them yet im assuming they should be easier.

Here's one I did with those "shitty" blurple LEDs

Autos have their place.. empty corners of veg rooms, kitchen counters, outside where photos don't flower. I grow autos every now and then but just to have something to do, the buds never stay in my jars. No matter how much they yield or how good they look, they never match the best photo strains, not once have I had a KILLER auto.

As good as auto's do work for my indoor sunshine grows, they are not as good for my HPS grows.

I have tried auto's a few times under my 600 watt HPS, and have always been somewhat disappointed

I also find auto's to be inconsistent, hit & miss and riddled with issues....and the final smoke has never been top-shelf, but is decent.

I grown 5 different auto-fem strains from Crop King (AKA Crap King) and have had issues with each strain, from a fem being male, others not reacting as an auto (required 12/12 to flower), another that produced couple dozen seeds, and poor germination results.

My favorite auto has been the Dwarf Low Flyer which can complete from seed to harvest in 90 days (indoor sunshine)

This is why wanna try photos to really see if they are better or if everyone who has grown for a while and just grow photos are that opinionated

Edit autos will suck if you go with a shitty breeder or just use your freebies ( there free for a reason) gotta get them good genetics

@whitebb2727 hiya dude I read your comments you know a lot about Auto's I gather, I am germinating my Auto-Fem Northern Lights in a paper towl, is this not the way to do it??? you just put your seed in the dirt from the get-go? and what bad does it do to use the Paper towl method exactly?
Youre fine bro! That's the beauty of growing there are soo many different ways to so stuff it's all personal preference

Yeah I know but I am just interested to know his reasoning behind it, I like hearing lots of ideas and going with the most logical sounding one :p

This has been a thing that so many people do - pre-soaking..

Some of the best breeders out there are now telling people to NOT do that.

Water that sits out, is distilled or from a store shelf.....Will not have enough dissolved o2 in it to properly pop. The seeds will "drown" and not get enough o2 to grow.....

be sure your PT is damp and not dripping wet.

Add a bit of H2o2 to the water your wetting the towel with...

With them outside try to time it for when the days are long.

I've had some killer freebies. Breeders do it to get their name out. One of the best plants I ever had was a freebie.

As the tap root develops it grows fine root hairs. They grow into the paper towel and stick. When you add extra steps it damages those root hairs. Its a seed. It doesn't need help.

By the time mine in soil break ground they will have 4-6 inch roots. People think its saves time to use paper towels. It doesn't.

You can do what you want but the key to big autos is straight to final pot.

Only fifth grade science class and pot growers use paper towels. I grow many vegetables, flowers and cannabis seeds every year. I always put them straight to soil.

Ah okay, thanks for the quick reply mate :)
So if I take it out of the paper towel JUST as the tap root is starting to break out of the seed shell and get it into some soil before the roots can grow hairs into the paper towel will that be fine or have I still screwed up?

It will be fine. Go ahead and get it when it cracks open.

Just don't let the tap root get long.

True that the first pot plant I grew was a freebie and it yielded great smoke was meh tho maybe I should try more of my freebies lol

Breeder makes a difference. I've had some shitty autos.

The top 3 breeders, in my opinion, for autos are; mephisto, dinafem and Buddha. Not big Buddha.
Dinafem White cheese auto. I've run 3 times in dwc 5oz once, 7 Oz off one i pushed the nutes on. All under a 600. All freebie seeds. Only issue they all went longer than they're stated 70-75 days, #3 going now is pushing 90 days, still got a few to go. Looks to be around 5zs again.

Breeder time for autos are rarely accurate. Bigger pots make bigger plants which extends grow time.

I swear these things had just thier flower time listed. They seem to veg for 3-4wks then flower for the 65-70 days. Each times been 95-115 days to finish. I want to try a true 60 day strain, see what they produce.

I got into autos initially because I could hide a half dozen around the yard and get staggered harvests outdoors, before I went indoors. They never did as well outdoors for me, I don't get much direct sun where I'm at.
