Let's assume small plants, 1-2wks old in rapid rooters or small rockwool cubes. Just wondering how deep you put new plants, seedlings and cuts, into netpots, 6"netpots, and if you've noticed growth differences? I've done from a thin layer of hydroton on the bottom, maybe 1", to better than half the depth of the netpot. Other than adjusting water levels to get to the plant, I don't think I've seen any easily discernable differences. I was thinking shallower planting, closer to the top of the pot, would encourage a larger root mass, seeing how the roots would have to branch out through the rocks more searching for water, but I haven't seen it.

I've never seen it talked about, it's the couple inches not that big of a deal?

Interest in hearing your procedures and thoughts on the subject.

i've tried top, middle and bottom without much difference. i think the key is to have decent roots before you xfer to netpots.

I put them in netpots with their cotyledons about 1" from the top of the pot. I only do this for consistency and to reduce the height as I use scrog.

I have been using Rapid rooters so far with water culture , to maximize root space I place them 1/2 to 1" below the Rim and fill with hydroton.

Then raise the water level to 4 inches below the rim leaving the 6 inch net pots submerged by 2 inches, This leaves about 1 inch between the bottom of the RR and the surface of the water.
I have good success doing it this way growing 8 and 14 oz plants
