Never top an autoflower plant. Right?

Science?

"Never top an auto." ~ People.

We see this all the time. Fact? Fiction? Myth? Tales of yore?

Let's find out.

disclaimer: I'm not a scientist. I have received no training. I have little experience. I have no personal protection equipment on hand and I've likely already smoked myself silly. Do not try this without stoner supervision.

Let's begin, shall we.

I don't just believe everything I'm told. If it came from the internet, even less. I take risks. Life is a game. Chance is involved. To win, you gotta play. If you play you can lose. I wanna play. So here goes.

Canuck seeds auto cheese topped @ day 26. Why? Free seed! Let's kill it! K, sorry no earlier pics. I did this on a whim because I switched to COB lighting and was experiencing exponential growth.

Don't mind the stakes. I did no LST on this plant at all. The stakes give a pretty good reference of growth. They're 14" taller than the bucket. Watch them disappear before you're very eyes.

Sprouted on 3/6. Topped 4/1. First pic was taken 4/14

So there we have it. So far, so good. She's in full flower now. Issues with this soil again but whatever. The only visibly slowed growth was the top. It's since caught back up and risen above the side branches.

I'm a little concerned with the number of bud sites and her finite life span. We'll see what happens there.

My only regret is NOT having another untouched cheese growing for comparison. C'Est la vie.

Science!

Hell ya, I just topped an auto northern lights and a 60 day lemon. We shall see. How old or how many nodes when topped?
She was at 26 days above soil. Pretty sure she was at 5 nodes. I hadn't planned to do it. Topping was a reaction to how well she was growing. I couldn't resist.

I will say, she is an utter pain to water and it's going to get worse as her branches stiffen up. lol

I have a sinking feeling she's gonna make a LOT of tiny bud. I hope I'm wrong.

Nice, I topped mine at the third node. mine are 25 days, they were 12 when topped. I read somewhere to do it while they're real young but big enough to top. Idk, first time growing autos for me. They seem to be chuggin along pretty good though, they did slow down for a few days, but then back at it. And yours seem to have responded pretty well too. Maybe some autos handle it better than others.

Hey creature, personally I don't enjoy topping my autos and find it can be quite risky with autos, in the case of your cheese plant it looks like it could turn out just fine :P

my experience left me with a stunted 2 headed dwarf who thought it would be clever to start flowering straight after lol

Good to see you back!

Yeah, like I said, I expect a lot of tiny bud from her. I did this on a whim due to how she was growing. I did it right when she looked like she was in full stretch. She still shot up another 10" or so after the snip so I don't think she stunted too bad. Hard to know without another untouched plant for comparison.

She is an absolute shrubbery though. I had to buy a long spout watering can just to water her. I've been debating some lollipopping to make my life easier but I want to see what she does on her own.

Due to her growth, I bought a 3 pack of these beans for further exploitation in the future. The problem there is that I have 21 strains of auto beans on hand and SOO many I want to grow right now.

Also, if I continue to see such thick under growth and branching using the COBs, I may have to pull the trigger on some autopots soon.

Okay! Day 58 ish. Watering day so, good time for pics! Can you tell I took about 100 leaves off her? Maybe 20 were visible, the rest came from deep inside that shrub.

Been hitting her pretty hard with nutes the past 2 weeks or so. She's not pulling from the leaves so hard now. Gonna hit her with P/K Saturday.

Bonus pic, World Of Seeds Amnesia in coco hempys, no training, about 3 weeks younger than Cheese

Debating topping the 2.5 week old Bubble Gum. Maybe?

Day 64. Buds are starting to bulk up a bit on top. She's definitely going to be a multi-harvest plant.

I've decided against topping the Bubble Gum.

My next adventure in topping auto's will be on one of a pair I'll start when the Cheese is finished. I've narrowed the strain down to 4 of what I have on hand. Either Short Stuff's Bloody Skunk or Dark Devil, or, Mephisto's Ripley's OG or Heisenburg Special.

Whelp. Glad I didn't top the autofem bubblegum. Turns out it's a straight up male. Balls forming at every node.

Starting a pair of Sweet Seeds (memory fault a couple posts up saying short stuff) Bloody Skunk today for the next auto topping adventure.
