Is it risky to remove fan leaves 5 weeks into flower?

Grand Master Level has shown some nice examples of defoliation. I did this last run but those ladies were fully seeded. It did not seem to hinder seed production one bit. Cannot say if it would improve yield, but it absolutely can help in canopy management.

To those who think plants aren't growing leaves in flower, well they are. Strip a plant completely naked at 21 days and in 3-4 days you'll be surprised how many leaves it will have on it again (assuming good healthy plants)

They will definitely produce new leaves during flower if they have to, but I prefer the plant to be putting all its resources into flower production at that stage.

I attempt to ride the fence here. Take just as many as I can without making it need the new leafs so bad it grows new one. Also. I take mainly from the middle of the plant. Center of the 8 or so tops. Because I rotate plants daily. In a cycle between MH and HPS lights along with 180 degree rotation. +Rep

I don't think we get a choice in the matter, the new growth areas will produce leaves in flower to a point in time where they don't.

If buds were only calyx what is everybody trimming?

Not a choice but can influence I think? Like if you chopped all the leave off like you said they will grow more....that's kinda choosing.

The growth tips produce leaves in flower. It's not a matter of "if they (the plant) have to" but rather that they are going to whether you remove the fans or not. So no in that sense (context) it is not choosing, what we are choosing is whether we want the fan leaves to remain while the new ones come in during the formation of the buds is all.

I think we are trying to say the same thing just on different streets. + Rep

Yes each plant has 8+ tops. I run 600 not 1000s so the pop is to focus all mains. I leave plenty of non terminal branches but mostly shoot for those with top fim super crop. Sorry to be a dick bro. I'm sure you know your shit. I'm just showing what works for me. You seem like a very smart cat.
No offense taken nor was any intended. We a get passionate about this wonderful plant. Here is a single plant run I finished a couple months ago. Ran it as a test to see if i wanted to switch to hydroponics. Topped twice and vegged for about 50 days. Grown under 350 actual watts of LED. Bushiest plant I've ever grown and probably the most pruning I've ever had to do. She ended up filling up a 3x3x6 tent all by herself. Haha

Awesome man. That thing looks fantastic. I do a 60 day veg on everything. Or shorter. To fit my 60 flowering schedule in. Harvest ever 2 months usually 1gpw avg give or take .2.
Bet that girl tasted oh so sweet!

Thanks very much. Definitely sweet! I usually run 60 day veg as well but she got so big so fast that I flipped early. Here are a couple flower shots and bud shots..

I don't cut fans, but I do cut all of the lowest/oldest growth that is within about 10" from the bottom. A little training and a clear cut bottom seem to improve air flow. I had PM one time and am a little paranoid.

Those things are amazing looking. The one in the middle has some crazy colors. Did you clone her? I don't usually clone unless I'm trying to keep a certain plant as all are from seed.

Do you flower with strictly HPS?

I did clone her. I typically prefer the diversity and vigor of growing from seed, but I loved the pheno so much I had to take a few cuttings. As for lights, my main grow is DE HPS for flower, but this plant had her own 3x3 tent and the entire grow was done with a CLW Solar Storm 440 I had laying around that I bought back '14 or '15.
