I just do not get this led/cob stuff...all the talk of hps heat.is a killer..
but you have to add heat to the led/cobs....?wtf
What's the point?

Large scale veg...led/cob 100%
Large scale veg...lec 100%

Large scale bloom..DE 100%...with your choice of led/cob/lec for mixed spectrum.

Just my opinion.

Mixing de hids and cobs is really tough, because of the ir heating up the leaves. YOu can get an even photon spread but the ir from the HID's will make hot spots with the ir that are really hard to even out. you will have 2 plants 5 feet apart , one with a leaf temp of 88 and another with a leaf temp of 81 under direct light

Going all LED solves this problem nicely.

Optimizing conditions for the equipment being used is a basic key to performance.

No magic sauce. People have been growing under HPS for decades so the optimum conditions are well known.

LED lights are the new kid on the block. The 'good setup' is still being determined.

My biggest plant ever was under COB LED, so we're getting there.

You still talking about that plant that wanted to die and had more deficiencies than the US gubberment? Looked pretty much unsmokable to me, but hey if you're used to smoking schwag it might work for you.

Lol everyone who tried it- and there were plenty- agreed it was some of the best smoke ever. Their collective experience could be measured in centuries, while you're just going off a pic in a thread and running your idiot mouth.

My experience is that I just don't have to run an AC. The lights heat up the room to the point where the plants are happy and never too hot. So same wattage w/o ac in my room is the benefit.

Im still of the opinion that no LEDs are hid killers. I still have yet to see any of the cob/QB guys do better than any of the hid growers with dialed systems. Led in my system max put me up .1 gpw over hps. Which doesn't justify a 400-1000% price increase Imo.

Both lighting types are just tools. I think everyone should use whatever they feel like and works in their setups. No lighting is better than another. More efficient in light output, maybe. But hid you get uv and ir, LEDs no chance so you gain some benefits, lose others. Anyone saying a specific lighting type is better just looks and sounds like a balloon knot, lol.

Agreed, I have swapped over from 6k of DE HPS to 5.4k of led. Have not lived up to claims yet, but I am still trying. As it stands right now stick with HID imho, for now

What I did notice with white LEDs, is that plants are easier to keep healthy(green) all the way through cycle. For newby growers that probably makes a huge difference in yield, but for any grower with enough experience to keep plants as healthy under hid as led, the benefits are much harder to see. Plants can only produce as good and as much as the genetics allow. Ime at best that's what you can do, and in most situations something isn't 100% perfect so you'll be slightly below that capacity/quality.

All these LEDs guys are noticing is what healthy plants do on a regular basis, lol.

This has a good chance of being true. Though if someone can handily beat 3 p on less then 1000w of led on multiple runs then I willl gladly change my opionion

LEDs aren't new at all, LEDs that put out enough power in the correct spectrum, yeah. They still have yet to do LEDs with ir or uv in any reasonable price range. So as far as it goes, at the point LEDs do catch up, I'm sure no one will disagree with you, but at this point. They're just tools we use to grow.

HID lighting has a lot of IR emission that keeps leaf temps up. Because LED doesn't emit nearly so much, higher temps really help. Think of it as an added benefit since this means you don't have to run the AC so hard!

I've found room temps in the low to mid 80s make for happy plants under modern LED lighting. That's as much as 10 degrees F warmer than under the old school light bulbs approach.

When running side by side comparisons, it becomes very important to take this temperature difference into consideration, otherwise the test results will be skewed. In other words, a true 'side by side' would place the plants in different spaces where temperatures could be better optimized for each lighting regime.
Low to mid 80s for the cobs. Okay. What about lights off temps?
