What do YOU consider to be day 1 of flower?

My Pennywise girl started throwing pistils everywhere today only 2 days after switching the photo period . Should I think of this as day 1?

It's whenever you want to start counting. I count from the photoperiod as it can take a week or two to even begin showing pistils.

If its 12/12 from seed,its the first sign of pistils.
If you veg past maturity(preflower), i would count when you switch the lighting to 12/12.

Eventually you wont even count anymore....you will look at it and know when its ready. Environment is a huge factor

Counting your days to know when they finish is pretty well a waste of time as there's a ton of variation in finish times from seeds. That said, I do count but only to track variables in my environment when I make changes and only when I'm running clones that I've grown before so I can see if there were any differences in finish times or expression for known clones/phenos. I count from the day I flip as it's the most consistent starting point across different strains/phenos.

1st pistils for me- as one plant can take up to three weeks plus to show and another can show next day.. but it's just semantics as they're finished when they're finished..

I count from the first time I go to a patch and she is twisting up. If it's been a couple of three weeks, and she is already forming buds, I just estimate. The timer on my light is more gradual than you guys.

I want to know the total time from the flip for any strain. I don't grow outdoors so when flowers start is irrelevant to my needs. Day 57 today so sharpening up the Fiskars!

It's also good for determining if you have an issue. If you don't get any bud sites after the 3rd week of 12/12 you know something is wrong with your set up.

EDIT: obviously strain dependent, but there should be SOME noticeable changes by week 3.

I prime my plants with Bloom nutes and Big Bud a week before flipping and pistils are poppin in 5 days or so with almost any strain.

If something isn't happening in 3 weeks there's definitely something wrong Xcor. Either the plants aren't old enough to flower normally or there's a serious light leak during their night. Should have top buds the size of a dime to a quarter by then.

Interesting, you grow in soil?

I'm growing in a 50:50 mix of ProMix HP and ProMix Potting soil with added perlite. Done a lot of DWC too.

I think I'll start the early flower feeding schedule for my plant tonight then. I had heard feed veg until after the stretch was over, but maybe not?

I count from the flip. And (try) to run them till they're done. I've heard it's a good idea to start changing the nutes from nitrogen heavy to a more phosphorous and potassium heavy mix.

That's not to say- go nuts with it. Just start changing the feeds gradually a week or two before changing light cycles. Like uh... drop 15% off the Nitrogen to begin with. And add that between the others kind of thing

They still need some Nitrogen in flower. If they start to yellow. They either need more nitrogen. Or they're closing in on the end of flowering cycle. Or even experiencing a nute lockout. Yellowing should start from bottom up. Not the other way round.

Yellowing from top down is either a sign of lockout or needing a feed.
