light deprivation (please help)

Hello,

We are currently into week 8 on our light dep. and suddenly experiencing some mold issues. My partner said we should stop covering all together and let them finish out on the natural light schedule for this area, located in northern CA. We are growing chemdawg 4, this strain is usually about 9-10 weeks. I would say we could be finished in another week or 2 at the most. If we decide to stop light deprivation at this point will it harm or decrease flower formation in anyway. We have been told that many other people have done this and it shouldn't affect anything being so late into the grow. Im still very cautious and would appreciate anyones advice who has direct experience or knows someone who does. Thanks

many grows die of mold

stopping light dep now will result in some serious confusion

but: ..you could harvest the worst of the molded now

and hang to dry in a dark warm place

the reason being the flowers will continue to grow for another few days

even tho the plant is gone

good luck

Only cover for the duration needed to get you to night time then uncover. That way the plants will only be covered for a few hours. when night fall hits pull cover back off. Will help tremendously with mold

Thanks for the reply:) the only problem is we are in an intense heat wave here, reaching between 105- 110 for 8 days. We are on generators and our fans can only do so much, it's still 100 out until 9:00. We are thinking sense they are so far along and developed that if we just let them go for another week what's the most that could happen in that time? I don't think it's possible for them to revert this late, I don't really know for sure. My friend said he had done this with no problems. We could always just harvest if we see any warning signs.

At what times have y'all been pulling tarps?

If it's too hot out and it's not too far off the schedule you have been doing, tarp them in the morning for 2 -3 hours while the weather is still mild, giving you about 11-12 hours of darkness. Will keep you flowering atleast.

Get some shade cloth for those super hot days. Will drop temps 10-15 degrees with little man power and no electric.

7:30 to 7:30

The problem is our tarping system takes 1.5 to open and 1 hour to close. it's an internal system and its 2 very large GH. It would be a total of 3hrs. We may just end them in 5 days, they are pretty much ready now, could use 5 more days.

Would cost too much money to shade cloth them.
Cost even more money to loose a crop to a hot spell induced mold attack. Just saying. Don't step over dollars to pick up pennies.

We just ordered 20,000 sq ft of shade cloth for the two day heat wave about to hit Oregon. Might be the only time we use it this year, but still worth every penny.

Seems like an awful long time for a light dep to open and close. Our 30x120 takes about 25 minutes to open 20 minutes to close.

Right you are, in the end it all works out. This tarping system is crazy, I've been in over my head, it's pretty much all me taking care of everything. Luckily we have super low humidity here, it's only a problem when we have it tarped. This strain is prone to mold so those fat tops are the problem. Really, we have very minimal mold and it's just started, that was our logic to stop tarping and harvest everything In a week. We figure that mold would be a bigger issue. The heat doesn't seem to effect them, it's only when it's covered.
