DIY with Quantum Boards

Can someone explain to me the need of a power supply for your drivers? Why can't you just wire all the drivers together for your power?

Been looking for a light setup for a 2x2 but haven't pulled the trigger just yet. The 135w kit looks like it would be perfect for a small space. Anyone complete any micro 2x2 with a single 135w kit yet? Would I expect to see a very good light spread in the entire 2x2 space. These are intriguing since I can see doing very successful lst or scrog with a very even spread.

Only question though is since I'm limited in vertical space are there ways to shorten the included hangers or other hanging options to reduce any wasted vertical space. Basically I'd like to mount it as close as possible to the top of the cab to maximize my vertical space. I understand some headspace is required for air movement. I love the idea of passive cooling as the only noise will be my exhaust fan which means I can stay stealthy.

Easy fix ... Eyelets at corners and ratchet hangers ... The boards are so light that can be very close to top of tent. ( especially if driver is remote mounted. )

Slate heatsinks have a very flat surface ( passive cooling ) ... You could corner mount a small clip fan in your tent to blow over HEATSINK to aid in cooling. Under a nominal power setting it will run quite cool ... Mine run at room temp. All day long.

Yes , I use them too.
2000 of them phytosellius + 10 sachets of amblyseius .
Great job!
I was thinking of using these or something similar as a precautionary measure against the fungus gnats that turn up from time to time. A good idea do you think? Also was going to use ecothrive biosys. I've heard some good reports about this product. What do you reckon mate?

Quantum Board - Bud Porn ( GSG strain )

18" canopy height - 210w pull ( kil a watt meter at wall ) dimmed from max.
Bottled on 6/5 - still curing ....... But looking fire as fuck.
Quantums definitely drop dense nugs .... No more airy bullshit ...
Even the smallest nugs look and feel like little rocks.

These are gonna have at least a 6 week cure before I light some up. I still have some GG4 and Blue Coral from earlier grows to keep the clouds coming ....

Do you have any other setups to compare it to? HPS, CMH or LED from previous grows of similar strain(s)?

To me comparisons are kinda moot ... Each system have pro and cons. There are a lot of dick swinging when it comes to lights and setups.

I have grown with various lights and look more toward the efficacy of the rigs I put up.
Since now I am space limited compared to some years ago , I adapted my growing and looked for the best way to light my plants with my grow space ( your grows and others will vary ). I have two tents that I use with perpetual harvests usually every 2-3 weeks .
I switch to Quantums in Dec. 2016 - and have harvested multiple times ... It does take some tweaking to find the " sweet spot" as far as power levels and height but really that is all. I don't use AC or humidifiers or complicated air flow. Just a good negative pressure inlet and outlet setup.

Panels run ridiculously cool even compared to COBS - I have bedroom grows and do not have ANY heat issues. In some setups done by others ( temps MAY have to be added by heaters ) but for me ( and its summer ) I run at room temps. Plants don't canoe or taco up , no crazy blurple disco spectrums , No bulbs to buy , Or bulb decay.

CMH is I think the only one to take over HID ( unless doing commercial ) as far as home grown indoor . Price points with the Quantums far exceed dumping hundreds on ballasts , bulbs , higher CFM fans , etc. ... Even the Timber Grow rigs are another great choice.

For simple passive designs , these are hard to beat ....
There are many knockoff panels being made and sold based on @robincnn and @Stephenj37826 designs. They are doing the designing and are constantly upgrading the core components ... Bins are changed as they test and improve boards , they have an incredible list of driver choices for both Qb288 and QB304.

Trust me , down at the Quantum Board Labs they are working on more products.
The 260w kit is a good start for 2x2 and 3x3 ... Even the 90w kit is impressive. I personally built a Refit Conversion of an old Mars Hydro Panel ( based on @Growmau5 ) conversion project with ONE PANEL and a 55w MARS Driver. And was killing it .
After that I got sold and began building other rigs. I try to show what I have been getting with mine . Other growers here are killing it with Vertical grows , SCROGs and Autoflowers.

There is no need to go all science nerd with the spreadsheets and Par numbers.
These will open your eyes ... They come in different spectrums ( 5000/3500/4000/2700)
And are ready for ANY application.

Here is that FIRST BUILD with quantum- 1 board - 55watts ( in a 3x3 )
Mars Hydro Conversion build ... Panel Fans still used

Same build now modified into a 3 panel rig - current
Mean well driver upgrade - dimmer pot adjustable

Look at the other grows going around these boards , they are all pretty happy .

Very informative critique of the QB's, nice one @Budzbuddha

I do think it is a shame that the LED market has been 'polluted' by a lot of BS products that claim all sorts of amazing results that they cannot actually achieve.
The QB's seem to be putting this right which is fantastic! All the guys documenting their QB grows will help to cut through the cynicism that many people show toward LED's.
The future is bright, the future is QB's!
Well done to @robincnn & @Stephenj37826 for all the hard work and results. Nice one guys!!
I just wish the QB's were always available but hopefully that situation will arise in the not too distant future!

This one was vegged under qb up until about a week ago when i had to move it do to space restraints. Really nice tight node spacing and this was under 3000k boards, I have 4000k's coming for my permanent veg light.

She out grew the slot in the hydro hat so it's become a permanent attachment until I chop. It's been under the net for a week or so, the net is only 5" above the pot. Can't wait to get a 4 board setup above her and set the timer for 12/12. Hopefully it wont fill the net out before they get here. I want to finish 6-10" above the screen.

This was the best WW with the tightest growth.

And the serisouly over crowded veg tent under 4 QB's. These two large white widow pheno's I did not like and I may end up killing them off, the small og kush I'll grow out though

Man - nice-clean setup. Even the scrog net is one of the nicest I have ever seen.

heres a question for those of you who have been using qb/cobs for a while. i just finished the 4th week of flower and i already have at least 75% cloudy trichs. if it keeps on this way its going to be done by the end of next week. is that normal? i'm used to things taking at least a couple of weeks longer under the hps
What is the normal period for this strain? It seems like QB's veg faster than normal based on some experiences here.

I have a question, what driver do I need for a single board setup? currently using Mean Well HLG-100H-54A . The driver feels a bit hot, what temps do yours normally run at?
You got the right driver. 55-60 c will feel hot to the touch but is well within spec for Meanwell drivers. If you get a little sure moving around them they will run much cooler.

I have noticed ( some may chime in ) that the plants seem to stay together in height ( strain dependant) . Stretch seems better controlled ...

There are growers using Quantums with NO HEATSINK.
Just to add to this, I think you bring up an excellent point.P1020172.JPG After initial training I let this plant do her thing after the flip, i'm digging the way shes grown since then. Tops are pretty much even, haven't touched her since the flip. The distributed light seems to have this effect i've seen it in other plants.
I'm runnin 2 boards w/ no heatsinks at roughly 140 watts total. I have overkill exhaust and fans and it does a great job of keeping the boards warm and not piping hot. Eventually will get the heatsinks, but for now keeping healthy plants all the way thru to harvest is the focus and then ill push the lights to the limit.

Can anyone help explain the cost differences between a DIY COB LED setup and QB setup for a 4x4 tent? I don't think height will be an issue which I believe is a QB benefit since I can fit a 6' or 7' high tent. I should have no problem getting an LED rig far enough away from the tops.

What are the benefits? What drawbacks might there be? Seems like QB may throw off even less heat than a COB LED setup. Are yields, THC production, electrical costs beneficial for QB over LED?

Sorry for the generic questions... I'm a newbie to all of this and have been doing tons of COB LED research, the more I learn the more questions I have. And now I'm reading about QB and have even less answers and more questions!
