Getting close to harvest. Top leaves purple.

Hi everyone. I did a full organic grow and the plant just hit day 50 of flower. The top leaves have yellowed and purpled over the past week or so. Is this ok? Should I give nutes, or this close to harvest should I not worry about anything and keep giving plain water?

I am at day 45 and my leaves look worse than that. I dunno, I hear that's what they're supposed to do at the end.

If you plan on a 8 week harvest and you're in the final week water only! You want the plant to "cannibalize" itself. Looks good.

My last one did that too. It's not always a bad thing. Sometimes it's the temperature they are in. Other times it's genetics. I wouldn't stress about it too much.

I'd be more worried about leaves curling up/down or suddenly going brown on the edges.

To me that looks like it's closing in on harvest. Wait till those hairs are all brown. Or til you can see 30% amber trichomes. With the rest being cloudy. You'll need a 30x^ magnification loupe.

I don't think you're that near to harvest. 20 - 30 days depending on how you like your weed... Is it now 50 days from flip or 50 days since you saw pistils? You're still pumping out white pistils.

Just an educated guess, but I think this is magnesium deficiency. I'd add some cal mag or the organic equivalent (epsom salts) to rule that out as a deficiency. As mentioned, something is going on. It would seem to me that the bottom leaves should be yellowing first if this was typical ripening. And I agree, there is some clawing of sorts going on. One thing I have found helpful is half way through flower to top off the pot with some fresh soil. This seems to replenish things enough to get me through the end of flower. See chart below.


That being said I think that I prefer my plants to be yellow at harvest due to lack of N. When I harvest bud that has all green leaves it typcally tastes grassy..

I see the same with my outdoor veggies and trees and fruit and berry plants too. looks natural to me as a plant is finishing.
if this didnt happen to me often I'd be worried

It's 50 days from flip. I topped them off with earthworm castings for some extra food. How much more time do you think I have?

It's almost 100% based on the strain. You have not said what strain it is. Then Google search the flower time for your strain.
Should give you an idea of when the last week of flower should be. Once you cut nutes is when you start watching with your magnifying glass and only feeding water.

At least 2 weeks or more ... Colors are strain dependant sometimes .... You have a lot of white pistils and only around week 7 ... Keep pushing along ... Pistils will change and recede as bud matures. Don't get so anxious to harvest ... It's like picking fruit let it ripen.

Some strains DO NOT Amber up either. Take breeder estimates with a grain of salt , their finish times are listed under OPTIMAL CONDITIONS ( temp controlled , sealed grows , environment control to study strain performance ) , not like regular joes like you and me.

I NEVER go by breeder times ... It ALWAYS goes longer. Especially Sativas. Even autos can run longer than advertised. They look very good and they will get even better.

Interesting. I'm growing black jack, ice, and papaya right now. They all say 7-9wks, but I'm in no rush. Here is a pic of the 3 of them.

I'm going to guess that the one in the middle is a heavy feeder and is craving something,,, I'll still stay with magnesium. Buds look nice though so don't lose too much sleep over it.

If they say 7-9 weeks they mean 9-12 weeks. I usually let my indicas go 70 days from flip

Thanks. The middle plant has been grown completely organic. Because this has been my first grow, I tried a few different things on different plants.
