Small ACMPR Kush Berry Grow

Day 13 Flower

I'm starting to see bud development and the smell is stronger everyday when I open up the tent in the mornings to water and inspect. The kushy coffee smell is slowly being replaced with a floral berry smell.

As I inspect my plants I'm starting to see slight differences between them. I'm pretty sure I'm going to end up with three distinct phenos from this grow and I'm guessing one will be more like a Purple Kush, one will be more Blue Berry dominant and one will be more of a true cross between the two. I like this as it will give me more variety at harvest.

Pheno 1
Purple Kush dominant are the smallest plants in my tent but have the thickest stalks and look like they want to focus on cola production over branch production. They smell like coffee. They honestly look weak as far as plant structure goes. They also don't look like they want to be fed anything above 900ppm as they have a tiny bit of downward leaf curl.

Pheno 2
Blueberry dominant, these plants have the biggest fan leaves and are very berry smelling. They are my mid sized plants and are hard to keep open in the middle due to their huge leaves.

Pheno 3
I think these are the true KushBerry plants and they are the biggest in my tent, I have three of them. These ones still have big leaves but the blades are narrower than pheno 2 and love to drink. They pretty much empty my hempy pot reservoirs in a 24hr period. The smell is a funky cheesey berry smell, it's hard to describe.

I also kept two of my males and they both look like they are also pheno 3 and now live outside until I can harvest pollen.

Day 16 Flower

800-1000ppm seems to be the range these girls like. I feed them every morning and they are always dry by the next morning. The girls always get nutrients too. I think they may have gotten straight water once or twice but it's rare that I don't feed with every watering.

I'm starting to see good solid bud formation finally. It took a while but I needed the stretch time to help open these girls up as they were pretty small when I flipped them to 12/12.

I'm pretty happy now. I think I could see close to a pound easily if the buds are going to be as dense as I think they will end up being.

Sounds good, not trying to be negative but I'm not familiar to your semi hydro style here. You add 800-1000 daily, but do you ever flush it out? I would think if you just add and add, salts would build up and get concentrated. Just a thought, but if it's working...keep doing it!

When I feed, I over water by 20-30% and the run off is always lower than what I am adding. I was also concerned about salt build ups but as of yet I haven't really seen any signs of it. That could change in the future but I'm not sure as I have never used this system before. The plants seem to be loving it though but I have noticed that if I feed over 1000ppm I can see the big fans start curling their leaf tips downwards.

On a side note my wife loves the run off for her hanging baskets. She has never had such healthy flowers and plants. Nothing goes to waste. Lol.

Day 17 Flower

These indica fan leaves are driving me nuts!

I said earlier that I don't mind defoliating my plants to allow light to penetrate through the canopy to the lower bud sites but this is getting ridiculous!

This morning I noticed that pretty much no light at all was penetrating past the top couple inches on most of the plants so I gave them a haircut..... I might have gone over board but what's done is done and I'm going to have to live with the results. Lol.

I also lollipoped the bottom 6" on each plant as I don't care to be trimming or smoking larf anytime soon and it just looks so much better IMO.

I have also started feeding nutrients every second watering for a couple of reasons, one was because of what undergroundscientist said about the excess salts possibly building up and secondly because I'm going to run out of Micro, MagNifiCal and Velo Kelp if I stay with my current feeding schedule.

Up until now I have been using my phone to take pictures but I am going to start using a camera so I can try to get better pictures. I just have to figure out one of the many cameras that litter our junk drawers. I took about 20 pictures after my light went off but only managed to get one decent picture.

Looking great in there now
That camera makes a huge difference
I keep threatening to switch to a real camera but I'm afraid it would make my grow somehow look even worse lmao

I didn't realize that I had tip burn starting on some plants until I seen the pictures enlarged on my laptop.

Looking great, nice batch coming up :) That camera is looking like the winner!
It took me about 2hrs last night trying to get the macro function to turn on. The trick was turning off most of the auto functions. But I should be able to get clearer pictures of the buds now.

I still have quite a few tricks to learn though.

In a past post I mentioned that I have three noticeable phenos and I still think that stands today one pheno is tall and stretched out kinda sativa looking the second is short and bushy and the third is tall and very bushy ( I only have one of these but it's a monster and has the biggest buds).
The second and third phenos look like they will yield the best and soonest. The first pheno looks like it is focusing on stretching over bud production.

Also there isn't much for smell in my tent. I'm not sure why because there was smell two weeks ago. I wonder if the cooler temps are causing this? I'm peaking out at 24c and lows are 17.5c. I'm also feeding a sweetener called Natures Candy from the Remo line and trichome production is starting but I thought the smell would be more noticeable. Maybe this just isn't a super strong smelling plant (genetics) or could it just be too soon for the smell to come on stronger?

Could also be that your nose drunk to it now.
Whenever I think I have smell under control someone pops by for a visit and the second they walk in start sniffing and usually ask if I just burnt one.
Why yes....yes I did

I noticed in the second picture above that purple colour is starting to come through on the new foliage coming out of the buds. I went and checked a couple more plants and some have it while others don't. This was one of the reasons why I chose this strain, I have a thing for purple buds and was hoping to get a plant or two that have the genetics to produce purple buds, I just hope that the purple buds turn out to be the better buds.

So I have a couple breeding questions.

Is there anyway to speed up the speed a male plant grows and opens its pollen sacks? Would putting it in a dark place do this?

My strain is KushBerry, from what I understand the breeder crossed a Purple Kush with a Blueberry and kept breeding it to itself to stabilize the strain, so if I breed a KushBerry to a KushBerry is it an IBL, F1, F2 or something else?

Going to plant these today so I have something to put in the tent in five weeks when the KushBerry is done.

RE: Speeding up male. Not sure what you're trying to do there but what you mention will just slow down the maturation of the pods and they wouldn't open/mature properly. No shortcut that I can think of that would produce viable pollen. Some put cuts in a cup of water and let them mature to drop pollen on some form of catcher under the cup, but that wouldn't speed up maturation.

RE: IBL/F1's etc. That's a tough one if you don't know exactly what you started with. e.g. Lets assume as an example that the seeds you got commercially were F3's. Now you grow out said seeds and get one male and one female. When you cross those 2x F3's you'll end up with F4's. If they started as F2's you'd end up with F3's etc.

Thanks GroErr. I noticed today that some male flowers are opening. I have them in the backyard and they are getting huge, I want them gone ASAP. Lol.

I'll collect pollen this weekend by chopping of branches with open flowers and then shake the shit out of them in a mason jar. I think that should get me enough to pollinate a branch on each plant. I'm not looking for a lot of seeds, just enough to avoid buying them again if I ever want to grow this strain again.
