Replacing 600w HPS, help me DIY please :)

So ideally i would like to have a LED That would produce the equivalent bud to a 600w HPS. From my reading that is roughly 300w LED COB...

I was thinking of getting a 3' canopy rail and maybe 4 CXM 22s w/ 140mm heatsink (passive) run at 75w each for a total of 300w?? Wasnt sure of the driver though....

Am i in the ballpark? Is there something better i should be looking at? Quantum boards seem new and harder to source so thats why ive been looking at COBs.

PS
Base space is a triangleish shape of 28"h X 45"b (actually lopsided pentagon) And 4' tall

4' tall is fine for cobs i have about 4-5' from my flood table to the top of my light rig

6 cobs at 50W would be ~$220-$250 with driver

Shouldn't he be upwards of 420 watts to get similar performance to a 600 watt HPS?
This is a loaded question. It really depends on the efficiency of the LED setup because the more efficient the more photons (usable light) the plants get. I'm running less than 250 watts of COBs in my 3x3 and getting similar result to my HPS/Blue MH

What was the wattage of your HPS/MH, 600 watts? Thats only 40% of the HPS power. Can anyone seriously say LED is 50-60% more efficient than HPS? Just seems ambitious. 30-40% seems much more realistic.

From what i have seen in my own grows it's about 30-40% better, that huge... Imagine if HPS got a new bulb that in the same footprint as a 1000watt this new 600watt bulb could grow the same yields and cover the same area... I'm sure if you built a light with enough cobs/diodes run soft enough you could get 50-60%, but that would cost a ton for bragging rights.

Just my thoughts =D

To the OP.

I built a 300watt PCB that is 42 inch long and it covers the plants like a florescent light does, very little shadows. Cobs can still give shadows unless you have a lot of them and HPS gives you hella shadows. I'd say go with quantum boards.

this i what i built to replace a 1000w hps. 3 DIY LED Grow Light PCB – 90W from chil-led and 6 cxb 3590 Around 445w in whites, 75w in red and 42w in blue for a total watts of 560 for about a 5'x6' area. You don't need anything this big tho. To replace a 600w i would say 4 cobs 3000k 50w ea make rails like in my pic two on each rail spaced about 1 1/2 ' apart to center of cob. And between the the two rails put 1 or 2, PCB's spaced 5" gap between, 2 is better. That will give you around 375w total $700 with controllable reds and blues to give you better control over light spectrum. So if your using that same light for veg and flower you will have whites and blues on for veg. Whites, reds, and blues for first month of flower. Then just whites and reds for second month of flower. Or if you want cheaper cost i would just use 4 PCB's 345w lay their length with your rooms width spacing their edges around 5" apart or best for even coverage cost with 3 drivers and heatsinks around $600 - $130 if you go with 3 of them 260w total.

with new HPS bulb about 60-65% of the watts are making just heat so that means about 360w is heat and 240w in photons. Leds ran at lower amps like 1.4 for cobs or 1.05A for PCB's only about 30-35% of watts make heat depending on how cool you keep them because the cooler the led is the more efficient it is so 345w PCB is about 100w in heat and about 245w in photons. The reason some say like 50% more efficient is because your wasting less watts in making heat and spending less to cool all that heat your making .

Very nice looking buds on your instagram! Were they all grown with QB?

I like QBs for the low profile just worried that they are newer/less proven. Ive read more COB grows than QB (although i havent gone through the big QB thread here) where did you get your QBs?

the PCB's i use are from https://chilledgrowlights.com/our-products-services/diy-led-grow-light-parts/diy-led-boards-and-heatsinks/diy-led-grow-light-pcb-90-watt PPF Efficacy based on drive amps (350mA 2.97 μmoles/joule) (700mA Drive Current 2.8 μmoles/joule) (1050mA
2.67 μmoles/joule) CXB3590 run at 1.4a i think is about 2.58 μmoles/joule might be a little less not sure.
