Before and after defoliation

Yea I'm a beginner and just really heard a lot about it I noticed some of my bud sites in the middle of the plant were not getting any light at all. And in the process of taking care of those I tended to over due myself lol lesson learned only remove those covering up bud sites
Lower bud sites don't need direct light to grow!

And I was gunna add you should have some dying leaves at the very least some turning a little bit yellow,
No. Not really!

From the looks of it seems to have an excess of nitrogen. And in the second pic the tips look to had a tad bit of nute burn. Nothing to stress over they look great. I wouldn't do anything just saying!
No he doesn't.
The tips are showing that he's "pushing" quite well actually.

Your plants look great!
Your "defoliation" isn't "bad"..... Not what I do but, this thread is worth watching for actual results!

Please keep posting and include pictures weekly!

Looks like you did a great job and nothing I would call defoliation,

Buds don't need direct light to grow big. They will be a paler green from lack of light but they get their food from the rest of the plant as it circulates around the plant going where it's needed. Fan leaves are the solar panels absorbing the light energy needed to make the food.

I crop the top third to open up lower colas to ripen in the light for a week or more then chop the rest.

Shave all the bush from around your junk and it looks bigger but it really isn't. :D

Stepped harvest. I do the same!

UB got a shit storm for saying. "It's been proven that lower bud sites are more potent then their main bud counter parts."

He was right. Ripen those lowers and then harvest! I have patients that specifically go for the second or "late harvest" lowers over the mains.

The other part of that is, run longer then you think, to begin with.

Anyone that has grown for any length of time and actually keeps track of what's going on can easily observe that hidden buds grow great and there is no logical reason to be exposing them to light by sacrificing healthy leaves. If they are way down then they should have been lollipopped a long tine ago when it would make a difference. Tucking leaves under just hides them from the light so if you do that you might as well snip them off.

Even doing DWC ScroG I take all the beer cans off the top and let the "whine" bottles get fatter and sassier once they get full light. I never really thought about why I did it that way until I read threads like this a decade ago! :D

Nothing new under the sun or flower lights. Same old, same old.

Excuse me while I run downstairs and drive a rusty nail into the main stem of my flowering girl so I might triple my yield! rotflmao.gif

Jokes aside, there are lots of things you can do to pull a few more grams or another percent of THC off your plants but is all the fuss really worth it?

It's like souping up a car. If you want to be the guy with the fastest car on the block then pour all your effort and resources into that. But if the base model feels zippier with the premium gas just top it up and go!

I'm old, lazy, half crippled, cheap and broke so after near 50 years of messing with pot excuse the fuck out of me if I just want to dump in some real good bottled nutes and walk away. KISS! Keep It Simple Stoner!

I got nothing against those that want to go full hog on every little thing or preach their special religion but bible thumping gets tired real fast. lol

I always have way more pot than I can use so it ends up being given away or made into BHO, dry sift etc. Mix the dry sift with BHO at around 4g kief to 1g BHO and get what I call Honey Hash. A favorite at any party. :)

Making up a new batch of oil any day now with a simple QWISO type extract. A buddy's wife has a boob cancer thing going on and uses full plant extract RSO to treat it so no overly-refined products need apply. They get whatever they need from me free if they can't keep getting it from their current source. She uses a gram a day now and buddy says a BB sized piece knocks him out. lol

This is what it's all about to me. I used to buy bricks of Mexican dirt pot for $200, clean out all the seeds then visually divide what's left into 16 equal portions and sell them for $20 each and couldn't keep up with demand. 1000 hits of blotter acid for $250, sell $2 each or 3 for $5. You do the math.

Not into that shit no more. I grow some for the stoners and they help keep the lights on. $5/g for them. Someone in need gets what they need no questions asked but I'll be pretty pissed if they win the lotto later and don't toss me a bone. :D

Getting into breeding CBD strains and popping some old classics to mix with my Otto#1 girl. Original Skunk and BlueBerry from Crop King and some AK47 from CanukSeeds. Got a buddy sending me lots of ISS x DJShort BB seeds any day now. I sent him a few dozen seeds about 5 years ago and now it's coming back around. Kharma isn't always a bitch. ;)

If you have lower buds that dont get the light then you either grew them the wrong style or dont have a bright enough light, ive never understood why i would cut my bottom buds and leaves of rather shorten veg and my plant and have full buds top to bottom like the pros.

Lollipoping is for those with far too much veg time on their hands and not for cash croppers wanting fat yeilds.

If i were a cash crop grower maybe this would matter to me. Some people are personal growers who don't want the hassle of high plant counts. I can pull enough off one plant to keep medicated for a year. Why would i trade that for the risks associated with high plant count?

The world dont revolve around you staying medicated and USA's plant counts, the rest of us is growing for yeild and potency and getting high as fuck :-)

Sorry thats not meant to sound that harsh, more in jest....

Im not sure on that plant it was necessary but i do t think light pruning is wrong at all... stripping em in flower like some do is plum crazy, letting em bush like a 70s pornstar not necessary either..

I mainly go for it where leaves are mashing together or old fans that are shading sites..

Iv found like many controversial topics in life and growing the truth is often in the middle

Youre doing great!

Nice plant actually, since your only hitting it with a 160w mars panel i don't think you did anything counter-productive. Have you tried a side by side yet?

Whatever works for you. I pulled almost 3/4 of a pound of highly potent flower on my last single plant run. I'm pretty comfortable with my yeild and potency. But i completly get what you're saying. As for being harsh, i didn't take it that way. I'm not emotionally invested enough in interwebz forums to get upset anyway.

A bit of both I’d say. don’t feel it wrong to take some throughout... just don’t butcher em like I see some folks do that makes zero sense to me.

You also can clean em up a bit in veg- the stuff you know won’t amount to anything get it off a week or two before the flip even...once stretch is calmed down get the ones that will be nothing’s then.

It’s an art not a science- that’s not to say there isn’t science involved by any means..

I, like you, do just one to three bigger girls. I usually flatten my gg4 w last and a scrog net cuz it’s so bushy and tends to have stems too small to support herself or my beefy stalked bubba kush I let grow vertical but spread the few big mains w bamboo for better penetration. Maybe a bunch more small is more efficient but I do it to keep my numbers in line w state rules. There’s a million ways to skin a cat just as there is in growing.
