Optimal COB lighting for 2x4 tent?

Morning all! First post here and looking for your expert advice. I run 2 Mars Hydro 300w LEDs in a 2x4 tent, growing 2 girls at a time. I am ready to upgrade my lights. Environment, nutrients and genetics are all pretty dialed. Light must grow from seed to harvest. Money is no issue, I simply want the best possible lights for my small space. Of course this is insanely subjective but wanted some options. I am currently leaning towards 400watts of vero 29 gen 7s from Timber Grow Lights. One thing, I am not mechanical so want to purchase a plug n play set up. Thank you all for your suggestions. Happy Growing!

You've actually picked a very good light there. I'm using two of those Vero chips myself. And they perform well. Color wise- go with 3500k. Best all round start to finish light.

Timber would be a great choice for a COB plug and play fixture, I'm running a mix of vero29 cobs and qb120 boards.
I would suggest that you check out the horticulture lighting group hlg550 or hlg600 running the quantom boards for a fantastic spread.

For an full cycle go with the 3500k option.

Best of luck

Be nice to see QB 120's available again.....Not on their site in a while.

If I was ordering from Timber for a 2'x4' tent I'd get the 4VL model with 2 x 4000K and 2 x 1750K cobs. The 1750K gives you the deep/far/infra red in much higher quantities than any other cob. I would also see if he could put a dimmer for both sets of cobs on the rig. You could use the 4000K by themselves for basically the entire veg cycle and start adding the 1750K as they get mature. Could even set your timers to bring on the 1750K 15 minutes earlier than the 4000K. Maybe that's not do-able by him and that's ok. Perhaps you can also grab 2 of the growmau5 flower initiator pucks to go in the tent also, seeing as you want the best ;)

I would also suggest 2 or 3 QB's in that tent but then you'll have to wait until they get stock.

Thanks so much everyone for your replies, as a consumer I feel much better knowing I'm heading in the right direction. I have seen some stunning plants with COBs and look forward to joining the club. @Danielson999 i was thinking 2 of the 2VL model so that I can adjust height individually over each plant. The mixed spectrum sounds interesting. 400w would bring me up to 50w/sqft, I've seen some nice 200 and 300w grows in 2x4s. Is 400w overkill and I'll have to dim them or can I blast em in late flower? Again, thanks guys!

400w of high quality cobs is overkill for that space IMO, 200 watts would be great and I woudlnt go over 300 unless you have dimmers.

I've built 2 of those fixtures with Vero 29's. Both fixtures are meant for a 2'x4' and have 8 cobs each fixture running at 50w each or 400w total. I've never bleached or torched a plant yet. If you're in a 5' tall tent you might not get as much chance to crank it up but if it's 6' or 7' tall then 400w is perfect. I like to have more than enough as opposed to just barely enough. Since those Timber lights have dimmer then I would definitely go for 400w in that tent, especially if you get 1750K cobs.

Great idea about getting 2 of the 2VL's.

If I was John Galt, I'd get that first light you linked. 320w of QB in that tent is perfect. I would have suggested it too but I didn't know they even sold QB's at growerslights.com.

Yeah, I would go for the 320 also. I have the 260xl in my 2x4 which is fine, but I wish it was a little more..

I still have a T4-V725 in stock, Vero29C at 700ma, 970 PPFD in a 2x4

T22s, both fan cooled and passive are in stock. Two of them in a 2x4 would provide over 1300 PPFD.

That 320w qb is pretty sexy. Oh my, decisions decisions. From my very limited led knowledge, it seems QBs and COBs will both produce same quality product but the QBs are slightly more efficient? What other advantages are there?

All the lamps I just mentioned run Vero29C at 700ma, so efficiency with the high CRI spectrum I use is 56% at max power. The T22 turned down to provide 1000 PPFD in same space will be hitting 60% efficiency.

Efficiency is similar between all those lights. The difference with the QB's is they spread the coverage out a bit better and they require less heatsinking. For example, a QB running at 120w will require a $15-$20 passive heatsink. A cob running at 120w or 2 cobs running at 60w will require about $30 worth of passive heatsink. So when you add up 4 or 8 cobs worth of heatsinks your budget starts to grow a bit. The QB heatsinks are also thinner and take up less space in your tent which is nice if you're in a shorter tent.

Maybe Rahz has 2 smaller lights that would work for you since you like the idea of having separate lights for each plant.

That's nuttier then a squirrel turd. Never seen 800w or even close in a 2x4. Any pictures of plants or harvest numbers? Thanks for sharing bro.

I got around 400g on my first run, It was over watered and I burned my plants in veg. So just basic rookie mistakes. It was still fantastic
So I'm expecting better results this round as I'm more dialed in this round.
First round was in 8 3.75 Gal nursery pots. I grow in soil with organics.
This round is in 8 five gallon cheap ebay fabric pots
The pics are from my first round, I'm on round 2 now
