DIY with Quantum Boards

Hey @HeadbandKushMan I'm about to do a 4'x4' tent build with 9 (3x3 frame, a bit more spaced out than yours) QB132s but the one thing I'm not sure how to do yet is the frame. Can you tell me what materials you're using for the frame? Is it "angle aluminum"? Can I drill the holes with a regular drill or did you need a drill press? What you've got there is beautifully put together.

I was originally considering using PVC because it's easy, but I'd much rather use aluminum if I can learn how to work with it.
Sure, I used 1" angled aluminum for the sides and 3/4" flat bar aluminum for the middle frame. The flat bar at 1/8" thick is a bit flimsy so I recommend 1/4" thickness. @bizfactory is right, aluminum is pretty easy to drill through. Normal drill bits will work but the metal-specific drill bits get through them faster.

You can drill through aluminum with a regular drill and bits, it's a soft metal. Mark your drill spot with an awl first.

A drill press will just help making more accurate and straight holes...and probably speed things up.

Check out the square aluminum along with the angles. Both will work but the look of the square bars is really nice. And you can hide the wires inside if that's not too tedious for you.
is it pretty light? i bought a decent amount of samsung F strips that are about a foot long, and im guessing i need a u channel for each one. i bought like 50 of them, hopefully the aluminum channels dont cost a ton

Today was supposed to be Christmas for me. Then UPS delayed my delivery until next business day. Which appears to be Tuesday. ERR. I haven't opened a new toy in years. Kids first of course. Any QB users out there who believe the QB 260W will cover a 2x4 tray?

Was looking at 96 diode strips from not hlg so I decided I'd inquire with hlg about their 96 diode strips.

Would be awesome to run 6 retrofit to a mars 300. A bit pricey at that current ( ~700ma) but they'd be powerful.

After that I thought of running 10 qb96 on an hlg 240h-c1050

I really like that idea.

Edit- 20 would be the wattage of an hlg550 with 6.66 qb 288 rather than 4

Side note/end note. I'm liking the fake qb304 boards, running 10 of 12 ( and the 4 qb288 from hlg ) although the fake boards have rounded diodes rather than the cut cornered diodes on the 288 4k board from hlg.

Is your tray in the open? the 260 xl kit will certainly do well in a 2x4 tent

2x QB 288 > VIPARSPECTRA Dimmable 1200(520w) > 2x Qb288
1x HLG-600-54B
Total wattage 1150*
Abomination's Expected Light Coverage 4x9

Will update it's going in side a 5x10 space with mylar lined walls.
I don't have a par meter yet so just using the specs provided to lay it out what do you think?
Finally made some room put together the rails and wired it up.
I'm hoping the HLG will definitely help with the weak edges of the vipar and give the vipar one more season. I will ultimately retire it for a cmh next chance I get and just mount the power driver to the cmh and leave the qbx288 right where they are ;)

The only thing left is to tie up the extra cordage left about 8 inches to move the lights out further if need be. (No par meter yet)
Hope you like it ;)

Nice rig ..... I still got an old Vipar 600 mothballed right now ( actually kind of like that little shit. ) ... But did the Mars conversion instead. I know I will catch some shit saying this shit ..... But for what it is , it did give me some decent bud. For say up to for plants at a time , it did really well ... Dense buds on the cheap ! This why I didn't shitcan it , I kind of like the damn thing.

At least you can start grow with Vipar panel THEN add Quantums at full flower.
Or run blue switch on only during grow with Quantums then add the red at flower.
Or run Quantums and have Vipar ( red flower switch only ) on a timer to turn for last 30 minutes after Quantums shutdown and then it turns off after say 15 minutes to initiate
" sleepy time " to girls ....

Very nice. I plan to build a Quantum Rig around Two G8 Deep Red ufo's ( they actually work pretty well ) 630-660 nom .....

That's the cool thing about these quantum p
anels , they play well with others ! .... Lol.

Definitely, like the options of veg / bloom and the IR/UV enhanced spectrum. Part of the reason why I wanted to keep it for now. One light at a time and I get to see what I like to grow with. If I ever expand to the whole 10x13 i'll definitely be favoring the hlg/cmh over the vipar and like you did try to add some far reds and power veg t5 at like say 4ft around the room.

Just can't reason with throwing it away when I get some of the best smoke outta that vipar 1200 and it doesn't resale for much :)

Saturday night Quantums :

Chill time with the girls .... 4 panel rig is @360 watts at current moment of grow.
The grow is all 18/6 with veg plants and flowering together .....
Humboldt BD is doing her stacking thing and La Fruita is setting up hers.

I moved the Dwarf into my flowering room with the peyote and others.
Those are @ 12/12 and 420 watts of QB ( 3000/3500/4000 ) rigs. Which includes that tripod mounted one I built.

Normally I wouldn't move an auto from 18/6 to 12/12 , but she was getting fat and figured it was swelling anyways and new schedule might not be that bad on her.

Dr. Earth Nutes again for veg plants .... MaxiBloom on flowering girls plus HYDROPLEX ( @week 4 and on ) .

Temps are chill and no problem ....... 77°
